Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals (HFTP) is an international, nonprofit association, headquartered in Austin, Texas USA, with offices in Hong Kong, United Kingdom, The Netherlands and Dubai. HFTP is recognized as the spokes group for the finance and technology segments of the hospitality industry with members and stakeholders spanning across the globe.

History[edit]

The National Association of Hotel Accountants (NAHA) was founded on October 26, 1952 when a group of accountants from the Hotel Accountants of New York and the Texas Hotel Accountants Association came together at the Hotel Lexington in New York.[1] It became the National Association of Hotel-Motel Accountants in 1965, the International Association of Hospitality Accounts in 1973, and Hospital Financial and Technology Professionals in 1997. Frank I. Wolfe became the CEO in 1994.[2] He joined the company in March 1991.[3]

HFTP established the International Hospitality Technology Hall of Fame in 1989 to recognize members who have made significant and lasting contributions to hospitality technology.[4]

The organization established the HITEC in 1972, the world’s largest hospitality technology exposition and conference. In 2017, HFTP expanded its event internationally to Europe and The Middle East; these regional conferences serve as a counterpart to the larger North American event. In September 2019, the HFTP partnered with the Hotel Technology Next Generation to co-organize the HITEC Europe conference.[5]

In 2012, the HFTP opened a student chapter at the San Jose State University.[6] In November 2015, Timothy G. Nauss was named Global Treasurer of the HFTP.[7] In June 2016, HFTP announced that Wolfe will remain as the association's CEO through May 2022.[3] In 2018, HFTP purchased the copyright to the USALI (published since 1926) from the Hotel Association of New York City. The USALI provides operating statements formatted to provide hotel owners, managers and other interested parties with operational information pertinent to the lodging industry.[8]

Description[edit]

HFTP is recognized as the spokes group for the finance and technology segments of the hospitality industry with members and stakeholders spanning across the globe. Members of the organization are given access to HFTP's network of hospitality professionals.[9]

Each year since 1989, the HFTP organizes the International Hospitality Technology Hall of Fame to recognize members who have made significant and lasting contributions to hospitality technology.[4] Each year, the awards are presented at HITEC.[10] HFTP offers hospitality professionals online news resources specific to technology, clubs, finance, GDPR, F&B and its association at large. HFTP's informational sites include: HITEC Bytes, Club Bytes, Finance Bytes, F&B Bytes, GDPR Bytes, HFTP News, HFTP Connect[11] and the world's only hospitality-specific search engine, PineappleSearch.com.[12] The HFTP provides free online education program (ProLinks Webinars) since October 2004. Participants can earn continuing education credits towards their CHAE and/or CHTP designations.[13]

The Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals organization is based out of Austin, Texas, USA. HFTP has offices in Europe, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Dubai.

Certifications[edit]

HFTP offers and administers two industry-specific certifications.[14] The first, the Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive (CHAE) designation, was established in 1981.[15] It denotes a specialization in the area of hospitality accounting.[16] In mid 1990s, HFTP teamed up with the Educational Institute (EI) of the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) to create a second certification program for the hospitality industry. The Certified Hospitality Technology Professional (CHTP), a designation for hospitality professionals who specialize in technology related to the industry, was created in 1994.[17]

Entrepreneur 20X (E20X)[edit]

E20X made its debut at HITEC 2015. HITEC attendees have the opportunity to watch some of the most innovative start-ups the hospitality technology industry has to offer compete in the E20X pitch competition. The participating start-ups pitch cutting-edge ideas to a room full of HITEC attendees as well as a panel of expert judges including hospitality CIOs, angel investors, serial entrepreneurs and industry insiders.[18] The competition is held twice a year at HITEC Europe and HITEC North America.[19]
