Hugh and Judy Neutron are fictional characters from the Nickelodeon computer animated television series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. They are the most prevalent set of parents featured in the series and are a working class couple who raise their son, the 10-year-old title character in the fictitious city of Retroville, Texas. The characters were created by show runners John A. Davis and Steve Oedekerk and were voiced by Mark DeCarlo and Megan Cavanagh respectively.

Keeping in tradition with the old-fashioned style, Judy is a stereotypical housewife who is bossy and overprotective towards her child but loves him and her husband as well. As a running gag throughout the series, Carl has an intense infatuation with her and her pies while Hugh is an unintelligent goofball who has an extreme obsession with ducks but also loves his wife and child.

Characters[edit]

Personalities and appearance[edit]

Hugh[edit]

Depicted as unintelligent and empty-headed, Hugh has a very unhealthy infatuation with ducks, his wife’s toast, and usually messes around with his son’s gadgets. Aside from these, he is a caring patron who gives advice. In the film, he is portrayed as more intelligent, however in the rest of the incarnations, he became more bumbling and clueless. Speaking of his personality, he created a make-believe holiday nicknamed Pule (a portmanteau of pie and Yule) when Jimmy accidentally destroyed Xmas. In stark contrast to his more attractive wife Judy, Hugh has brown hair blue eyes and a pair of small glasses lying atop of his rather comically large nose and has a washboard thin build. His apparel consists of a navy blue top under a white T-shirt with red tie, black trousers and brown loafers.

Judy[edit]

Depicted as a stereotypical old-fashioned housewife, she sometimes takes control of her child’s inventions. Despite this, she is quite strict about said gadgets malfunctioning and sometimes reprimands him as displayed in the premiere episode. [1] Due to her appealing attractiveness, Carl is deeply infatuated with her and her cookies as a recurring theme through the series. In stark contrast to her homely husband, Judy has light brown hair brushed into a 1950s-type bob-cut forest green eyes and a somewhat voluptuous physique. Additionally, a small beauty mark is present under her thick pouting red lips. Her apparel consists of a green dress with pink polka dots and green heeled pumps. She also wears a pair of golden hoop earrings as well.

Portrayals[edit]

On the series and film, Hugh was voiced by Mark DeCarlo [2] who also lent his vocals to Baby Eddy while Judy was voiced by Megan Cavanagh. [3] Furthermore, Cavanagh has lent her vocals to Cindy’s mother and Old Lady Nusbaum.
