Maulana Qari Sayyid Ḥusayn Aḥmad al-Qāsimpūrī (Arabic: السيد حسين أحمد القاسمفوري‎, Bengali: সৈয়দ হোসেন আহমদ কাসেমপুরী) was a Bengali Islamic scholar. He is the founder of Jamia Mahmudia Darus Salam in Mymensingh.

Early life and education[edit]

Syed Hussain Ahmad was born in 1922 to a Bengali Muslim family of Syeds in the village of Qasimpur in Ishwarganj, Mymensingh District. His father, Syed Ghulam Mawlan Saheb, traced his lineage to Ali ibn Abi Talib, the fourth Caliph of Islam.

Qasimpuri began his education at the local primary school and then joined the Trishal Hafizia Madrasa where he memorised the entire Qur'an Sharif. After that, he enrolled at Jamia Arabia Ashraful Uloom in Balia where he completed his Islamic studies. For further studies, he then moved to Dhaka and became a student at the Jamia Hussainia Ashraful Uloom of Bara Katra. He completed Dawra-e-Hadith under Mujahid-e-Azam Shamsul Haque Faridpuri Sadr Saheb Huzur.

Career[edit]

His career began as an Islamic studies teacher in various madrasas across Bengal. In 1952, he established Jamia Mahmudia Darus Salam in Sohagi, Ishwarganj, Mymensingh. He served as the principal and muhaddith for this madrasa and taught there for the rest of his life. He was also able to employ Shamsuddin Qasemi and Dilwar Hussain Fenuawi as the founding teachers of this madrasa. Within ten years, the Dawra-e-Hadith was opened in this madrasa. Other teachers that joined this eminent seminary include Zainul Abidin Momenshahi and Azimuddin Umarpuri.
