"I'm in Love Without You" is a song by American singer-songwriter Finneas. It was released for digital download as a standalone single on September 1, 2017 by DRUP. The song's lyrics are about someone thinking about the aftermath of ending a relationship.

An accompanying music video was uploaded to Finneas' YouTube channel on October 4, 2017. Directed by Emma Sydney Menzies, it shows Finneas standing alone in a movie theater to him and a woman performing choreography. Finneas performed the song live at Troubadour in December 2018.

Background and composition[edit]

"I'm in Love Without You" was written and produced solely by Finneas.[1] It was released for digital download and streaming through record label DRUP on September 1, 2017 .[2] In an interview with Atwood Magazine, Finneas explains that "New Girl", "I’m in Love Without" and "Break My Heart Again" were "all these songs that from the moment I started writing them to the time I recorded them it was a short period of time because I usually get obsessed with things like that and normally whatever else I had planned for that day goes out the window, if I feel like I have an idea I have to finish".[3]

Musically, the track utilizes hip-hop influences in the instrumentation.[4] The song first started with twenty layers of harmony that was inspired by the Beach Boys, the Beatles and Queen's number one hit "Bohemian Rhapsody".[4] It features minimalist production that consists of handclaps and bass.[4][5] Finneas told Ones to Watch that the bridge was created by putting the chorus in reverse, "Billie was sending her friend a Snapchat and put the reverse filter on while we were working on the song, so I took every vocal from the chorus and reversed them and washed them out with reverb to create the bridge".[4] Lyrically, Finneas wonders about the aftermath of ending a relationship and is ex feels about him.[5]

Promotion[edit]

An accompanying music video for "I'm in Love Without You" was uploaded to the singer's YouTube channel on October 4, 2017.[6] The visual was directed by Bogdan Păun, while Nate Hurtsellers acted as the director of photography. Erik Vogt-Nilsen edited the video, and Oliver Lowry handled the production.[6] The clip opens with Finneas standing alone in a movie theater. Finneas and a woman later perform choreography throughout most of the video.[6] On March 17, 2019 a live version of "I'm in Love Without You" was uploaded to Finneas' YouTube channel. The version was filmed in West Hollywood at the Troubadour.[7]
