IGB International School, often referred to as IGBIS, is a private, co-educational, day and international school located in Sierramas, Sungai Buloh, Selangor, Malaysia[1][2]. It provides international education for children from ages 2 to 19. Being an International Baccalaurete World School, it follows the curriculum and education framework set out by the International Baccalaureate Organisation[2]. IGBIS carries out the full IB continuum, which includes the IB Primary Years Programme, IB Middle Years Programme, IB Diploma Programme, IB Career-related Programme[3]. IGB International school is, or at least claims and has made efforts to be, an inclusive, dynamic, innovative community[4][5][6][7]. The school is mainly populated by expatriate families with students from more than 30 nationalities with 61% of the school population comprising of Non-Malaysian students.[8] The school, offering private education services to its clients, is often referenced when it comes to some of the most expansive international schools in its country, Malaysia[9][10]. Being an international school that has been cited as one of the best international schools in Malaysia by British magazine, Tatler , and other numerous sources, it claims to be facilitated by "experienced IB educators" as academic staff members[11][1][10]. The year 2016 marked the inaugural graduation of the school with 17 graduating students[12].

IGB International School is wholly owned and operated by a subsidiary of IGB Corporation Berhad, Detik Harapan Sdn Bhd. IGB Corporation Berhad views IGB International School as part of its broader corporate social responsibility and an opportunity to provide education suited for the 21st century[13][14]. Uniform[15][edit]

IGB International School enforces a strict and conservative uniform dress code during school hours and/or within school campuses. There is, however, an exception to the school uniform during chosen days, where students are allowed to dress in accordance to a certain theme or culture. The school uniform of IGBIS is based of the school colours of red, black, grey and white.

Students from the ages 3 to 5 are all required to wear a red collar shirt with a red checked shorts. Students from ages 6 to 12 are required to wear the same aforementioned red collar shirt and with grey shorts (for males) and grey skirts (for females). As students move into secondary school ages 12 to 16, they maintain the same style of school shorts and skirts as they wore from the ages 6 to 12, however, they wear a grey collar shirt instead. Students from the ages 16 to 18 wear a white collar shirt with a grey skirt ( for females) and grey shorts ( for males).

The school allows for the wearing of tudongs of solid colours. The IGBIS hat is mandated to only be worn outside of the school building. While students in the early years have the choice of wearing black sneakers with white socks or flat sandals without socks, students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are to only wear black shoes with white socks.

During Physical Education lessons, students are to wear the PE T-shirt and shorts designed and sold by the school. The swimwear of students in the school pool is also enforced as the school only allows for the swim wear designed and sold by them to be worn.

The school neighbours another international school, ELC International School, which is located within the same residential area of IGBIS. The 10-acre campus is intentionally built for providing education as a school and was developed by, publicly listed company, IGB Corporation Berhad.

Academic[edit]

Two years prior to the matriculation of IGBIS's students, they are offered different programmes to suit their desired academic pathway. The first of which is the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), which is aimed at students from the age of 16 to 19 and is developed by the International Baccalaureate. The aforementioned programme consists of 6 subjects, from 6 different subject groups, and three core requirements. IGBIS was first authoritherised to carry out the IBDP on the 4th of October 2013.[2] [20] The second academic pathway available for IGBIS students aged 16 to 19 is the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) aimed towards students looking to pursue Arts and Design[2] . The University Level courses taken by IGBIS's students during their 2 year IBCP course will see them take part in classes facilitated by the Savannah College of Art and Design. Thirdly, the High School Diploma (HSD) is offered to students and serves as the most flexible option of all three Pre-University course[21]. [22] The IB Diploma Programme is the most popular programme, with the most students, followed by the High School Diploma and IB Career-related Programme[8].

The youngest students, which would be three-year olds, would be placed into the programme dubbed "Fireflies". This is followed by "Early Years 1" and "Early Years 2" in that order, and which are both prerequisites to the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP)[2], which will see students all the way from Grades Kindergarten to Grade 5. The IBPYP is sequeled by the International Middle Years Programme (IBMYP), which will take the students from Grade 5 to Grade 10[22]. [23] [24] [25] . Ever since IGB International School got authorised to offer the IBCP on the 18th of August 2017, it became the first school in Malaysia to be offering the full four programme of the International Baccalaureate Continuum which consist of the IBPYP, IBMYP, IBDP, IBCP.[26]
