«IMIRA» — Ukrainian rock band that was created in 2016 in Kyiv city. The authors of the first two albums are Ivan Shtompel and Alexander Scrypnychenko.
History
Founding a band
Alexander Scrypnychenko and Ivan Shtompel initially met at a party of friends in August 2015. Ivan loved classical music and graduated a music school in the "Saxophone" specialty. His favorite composers are Sofia Asgatovna Gubaidulina and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. In turn, Alexander was inspired by rock music since childhood, listening to bands such as Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Norma Jean, and Deftones. Influenced by their favorite artists, both musicians had experience writing their own music. Before starting work in IMIRA, Alexander released an album in the Mathcore, Metalcore style – «Gemini Rue».[1], and Ivan wrote classical music, such as «Хрустальная», «Элегия», «Spiritus» and others[2]. He even wrote a rock song, «Красивая», which caught Alexander's attention and led to the idea of a collaborative project.
By uniting in a single project, both invested their skills. Ivan brought melody and harmony, while Alexander brought rhythm and drive. Both members were skilled with various instruments and collaborated to create a new original sound. Ivan played keyboards, block flute, saxophone, and sang vocals, while Alexander played guitar, sang vocals, played didgeridoo, and percussion. Most of the band's songs were created through duo improvisations.
2016
The first album was created within a year of forming the band. They began working on it in May 2016 and released seven songs, compiled into the first LP "imPOSSIBLE". All songs were recorded in the garage of one of the band members. The official LP release date is December 31, 2016. During this time, the duo also performed at improvised parties for friends. After the release of their first album, Ivan left his job at STB as a musical editor. Alexander closed his design studio to dedicate himself fully to the band's work and development.
2017
In February 2017, the duo began work on a second studio album, "Wonderland", which now includes twelve songs. The album took six months of active work followed by completion. Both of the band's albums are now available on iTunes.
In July 2017, during a jam session, Alexander and Ivan met Volodymyr Myroshnychenko. That night, the three musicians went to a studio and began improvising together. From that time, the band had a third permanent member.
For the first time live, the band played their songs at a private Halloween party. In November, IMIRA was featured on Promin (radio station). In December, the band gave an interview to the journal "A step in rock". [3]
2018
On January 27, 2018, IMIRA performed a concert in Kyiv at "Surf Cafe Free Gen" to officially present the "Wonderland" album.
Since 2018, following public demand, the three-member band began active work on a new mini-album in Ukrainian. The release is planned for 2019.
In March 2018, the band won a vote to participate in the "Rock Bulava" music festival.
