The eighth-generation iPad Mini (stylized and marketed as iPad mini (A20 Pro) and colloquially referred to as iPad Mini 8) is a upcoming tablet computer in the iPad Mini line, developed and marketed by Apple Inc. It will be announced in October 2026, and it will be released in late-October 2026.[1][2] Its predecessor, the seventh-generation iPad Mini, was discontinued on the same day.
The eighth-generation iPad mini shares the same design to the seventh-generation iPad mini, but features an upgraded processor, an OLED display, water resistance, and a vibration-based speaker system.[3][4]
History
Reports about the next-generation iPad Mini started emerging around the time of the WWDC 2024 event.[5][6] There were speculations that the next iPad Mini was to come with an Apple A19 Pro[7] or an A20 Pro chip.[8] Other reports included the inclusion of an OLED display,[9][10] a vibration-based speaker system,[11] and water resistance.[12][13]
Early reports of production began to surface in June 2026, with the manufacturing of the OLED displays for the iPad Mini.[14]
In July 2026, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple would launch the OLED iPad Mini in October 2026,[15][16] and that the iPad Mini was to come with a 60Hz display.[17][18]
In August 2026, Mark Gurman stated that the OLED iPad Mini would go on sale by late-October 2026.[1][2]
In September 2026, details for the upcoming tablet, through Apple's code, were leaked, suggesting upgrades including an A20 Pro chip, a landscape camera, and a vibration-based speaker system. Aaron Perris reported on alleged product images and the front of the iPad Mini.[3][4]
Specifications
The eighth-generation iPad mini will be powered by the A20 Pro chip.
