I Care Foundation A.C. is a registered non-profit organization since April 5th, 2017, founded by Kapila Arora. They have been working for the last five years to improve the health and education of underprivileged children living in Mexico. I Care was founded with the belief that every person can contribute to improving a child’s quality of life, providing them with a broader spectrum of opportunities for the future. I Care Foundation has been successful for almost five years, benefiting members of all ages from more than 250 families in vulnerable communities in the State of Mexico. The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of boys, girls, adolescents, and families in vulnerable conditions through programs, workshops, and trainings focused on education, health, and sustainability in communities of Estado de México.

Vision

The foundation's vision is to build a brighter tomorrow hand in hand with people convinced that altruism and philanthropy are essential tools in the development of a future with better hope and opportunities for people in vulnerable conditions. Their mission is to improve the lives and development of families in different vulnerable communities in Mexico through programs focused on health, education, and sustainability.

Care Model

The action process that we carry out at I Care Foundation is a product of the great effort that their team makes every day with the support of the beneficiaries of the communities and government authorities. Their Care Model is comprehensive, gradual, and participatory, and it can be adapted to different contexts.

  1. Diagnose the community to know the requirements of health, education and any other concerns.
  2. Sustainable plan and solution.
  3. Implement the plan with the support of community and local authorities.
  4. Evaluation of the project.
  5. Leave an independent, trained and self-sustainable community with happy and healthy kids and their families.

Areas of attention

Nowadays, the I Care Foundation is working with families from two vulnerable communities in the State of Mexico through different programs and activities that ensure the improvement of the quality of life of each person who receives their support.

Communities:

  • Piedra Larga
  • Huixquilucan Raíces, Zinacantepec

Community of Piedra Larga

Their efforts are focused on the CONAFE Lic. Adolfo López Mateos School, where they support 140 Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary students. The school has basic public services; however, there are serious drainage problems and a lack of drinking water. In addition, the lack of paving on existing roads has made transportation very complicated.

In 2021, I Care Foundation focused on the development of sustainable activities for the benefit of students and teachers:

  • Installation of a hydroponic greenhouse that produces organic lettuce
  • Construction and equipment of a cafeteria where volunteer moms prepare healthy breakfasts daily.
  • Complete restoration of the school with painting and creation of murals.
  • Delivery of books and school supplies for all the students.
  • With teachers' help, conduct Yoga classes for children, adolescents and parents.
  • Virtual classes of English: Basic 1 and 2.
  • Medical checkups: visual and dental.

Community of Raíces

Their efforts are focused on the Miguel Covarrubias Kindergarten and with the most vulnerable families that do not fully cover their basic needs, their income is less than $3,500 MXN per month. The community in general has very basic public services; however, they have many deficiencies: lack of infrastructure, lack of employment, lack of drinking water, problems with the structure of the houses and problems with the reception of the telephone signal, and so on.

In 2021, I Care Foundation focused on monitoring the most ambitious project: Huerto en Casa, and sustainable activities were carried out:

Construction of 18 family huertos that will produce organic food for their own consumption and sale of the remaining produce.

  • Construction of a school huerto that will produce organic food to be consumed by the students and teachers of the Kindergarten.
  • Organization of workshops about composting, food production and commercialization.

Beneficiaries:

  • 140 boys, girls and adolescents from Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary at Piedra Larga.
  • 40 boys and girls from Kinder, and 18 families, which means more than 180 people, from babies to elders.

Impacts

In 2021 alone, more than 250 families benefited from the organization's work. They provided 40,000 healthy breakfasts, 2,500 basic pantries, 5,000 hygiene kits, 1,000 blankets for the cold, 1 family huerto, 1 hydroponic greenhouse, restored 1 school, 24 full English Scholarships, and a lot more!

Organic farming by mothers and teachers

This project aims to allow children, teachers and mothers to grow their organic produce without chemicals. They installed a hydroponic greenhouse in which everything produced is used to prepare nutritious food in the school cafeteria.

For the community of Piedra Larga, they seek to provide a more extensive menu so that the 140 students and school teachers can count on a complete and varied healthy breakfast throughout the week.

Educational Workshops

They carry out courses, workshops and activities on different themes of education, sports and culture so that students can have knowledge of other fields that will contribute to their daily and professional life. The most important thing for them is to ensure the physical and mental health of the children, creating a virtuous circle in their development.

Despensas

The organization delivered more than 624 basic despensas (food supplies) from March to July 2020 in the community of Raíces, Zinacantepec, and Piedra Larga as well. From August they got into an agreement with Banco de Alimentos to deliver these despensas in both communities.

In kind

They delivered clothes, shoes, and books to both communities according to their requirements. They delivered school supplies and backpacks to the little angels in the community of Raíces, Zinacantepec on October 1st. On November 17th, they delivered blankets in the community of Piedra Larga, Huixquilucan with the support of their contributors. On December 5th, in collaboration with Iglesia Uni2, they delivered 110 blankets in the community of Raíces in Zinacantepec.

Contribution to the UN SDGs

No poverty

Uplifting economically weaker sections of the Mexican community is one of their forefront objectives and they aim to do that by providing opportunities and support to improve their lives and develop their social welfare.

Quality Education

The organization has conducted courses and workshops for educating children on different fields that will help them in their professional life. They have also contributed to educating communities about different sustainable development strategies.

Good Health and Well-Being

They have undertaken many campaigns and drives to provide health and welfare benefits to the communities. This includes providing healthy food, distributing Covid masks and educating about organic farming.

Gender Equality

Their activities have always focused on promoting gender equality and they continue to provide opportunities for women empowerment in these communities by conducting awareness programs and educational campaigns.

Zero Hunger

To promote Zero Hunger, they have conducted drives to donate breakfast to these communities with inclusion of a proper healthy diet such as milk, oats, fruits, cereal, juices, bread, yogurt, etc.
