Inquizzitive is an annual open quiz program held in the state of Tripura, India. The program is organized by ex-students of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya and members of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Alumni association. The name is derived from joining the words "Inquisitive" and "Quiz" as a pun.

Inquizzitive was first started in 2001. Initially not very successful, Inquizzitive has gained the reputation of being one of the biggest statewide quiz competitions in the state of Tripura. The program is an open-to-all quizzing event and it has been well received by many notable personalities. Guests like Sri Prafullajit Sinha, Honourable Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and Sri Manik Sarkar, Honourable Chief Minister of Tripura have appeared in the program numerous times.

It has taken place on multiple venues like the Town Hall, Agartala and Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan. Inquizzitive 12 had a record of having the highest crowd in Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan. The latest edition is going to take place on 26 June 2016 at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan under the name- Inquizzitive 13.

History[edit]

The first attempts[edit]

2000[edit]

Quizzing in Tripura was not popular until 1999-2000. Few schools started organizing their own quizzing events. Some students from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya formed an unofficial group Millennium Students Forum (MSF). They organized a quiz event- Millennium Student's Quiz which was not a commercial success and the sudden absence of quiz-master led to the exit of lot of people in the crowd. But the quiz was somehow managed and ended on a good note.

2001[edit]

The first Inquizzitive was organized in 2001, more as an organized event and the first statewide open quiz event. The response was better compared to the predecessor. However, publicity and finances remained an issue. The appointed quiz master's stressed American accent triggered a new problem which led to unhappy participants and audience. The quiz somehow continued after replacing the quiz-master however it failed to make a positive impression on the crowd.

Reboot[edit]

2004[edit]

The quiz rose to prominence in 2004 when the team reunited to make another attempt following two unsuccessful attempts at putting up an statewide quiz show. The quiz master was chosen to be Subhrajit Bhattacharjee, an alumnus of Ramakrishna Mission and a public face in Agartala. The revamped show was marked as "inQUIZzitive II". The quiz went on to be successful with the introduction of audio-visual elements for the first time, better stage performance and better crowd reaction.

Following the success of Inquizzitive II, the next batch from the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya Alumni organized the third edition of Inquizzitive. The quiz grew on to become a notable quiz show in the successive editions. Subhrajit Bhattacharjee has been conducting has the Quiz-Master of the quiz ever since.

The present scenario[edit]

2007 to present[edit]

Since 2007 (4th edition), Inquizzitive has been an annual event which takes place every consecutive year and went on to be the highest attended open quiz show in Agartala. Every year a new group of pass-outs from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya join the Alumni association and organize the event. The quiz has expanded its reach with making its presence on social media like Facebook and Youtube.

It started fragmenting its events into parts and introduced new variants like Online Quiz, Photography Contests and Poster Designing competitions exclusively to the online audience since Inquizzitive 9. The quiz has been well received by many well known personalities one of them being the Chief Minister of Tripura who has made appearances on multiple editions of the quiz.

New technical elements have been added to quiz over the years resulting into a more audio-visual-centered quiz program than the preceding editions.

The venue has shifted from Town Hall, which has hosted most of the events, to Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Inquizzitive 12 making the record of highest attendance in the program and the venue itself. Inquizzitive 13 is scheduled to be hosted on Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on 26 June 2016.

The quiz has changed over time and changes have been made to the format of the quiz as well though the principal ideology is same. The event takes place in the Summer, around May–June. The quiz presents various methods of competition to the participants. It is based on a main-quiz involving two-member teams contesting to win the Inquizzitive of the corresponding year, multiple-audience rounds for the attending crowd and online competitions. The latter two has increased the response of the audience has had a great impact on the quiz. The quiz has been live telecast-ed as of Inquizzitive 10 in various local TV Channels in Tripura and Youtube. The event has changed into a quiz-show for educational as well as entertainment purposes from a strict quiz program format over the years.

Main Quiz[edit]

The main quiz features a statewide open two-person-team based quizzing competition having different elimination rounds in order to select the participants who will be competing in the final event. Preliminary-round takes place in two forms- Outside the event or while the event is being conducted. Preliminary questions are usually distributed a week earlier than the event in different schools by the organizing team. The participants team up to answer the questions. Usually 2-3 teams of the semifinalist teams are selected by this method. The other teams are selected in the event itself by distributing questions and answer-scripts to the teams. The selected teams then compete in the semifinal round which results in elimination of most of the teams leaving 6 of the best teams to compete in the finals. The marking schemes are mentioned by the quiz master at the beginning of each round.

The final round incorporates different quizzing styles to determine the winner. The teams are asked a series of questions based on General knowledge, IQ, Sports, Arts and Entertainment, Science and technology adding different variants like- Direct rounds, Audio-visual rounds, Who-am-I rounds, Connect rounds, Puzzles, Buzzer rounds, Topic-selective rounds and Rapid-fire rounds. The questions are asked by a quiz master to the teams and the teams can choose to pass a question to the next team if it is allowed by the rules mentioned by the quiz master.

Audience Rounds[edit]

Audience rounds have been one of the most important part of the popularity of the quiz show which has been present since the very beginning. The questions are presented to the audience and the quiz-master randomly selects a person who is willing to answer the question. The one who gives out the correct answer get their prize on the stage. Audience rounds are also the primary attraction of a few people who attend the quiz.

Online competitions[edit]

Since the quiz isn't organization by one single group of individuals there is no uniform page for a single team organizing Inquizzitive in social media. A page is made for each edition individually on Facebook to conduct the online competitions and sometimes a website is set up to enhance the response.

Online competitions became popular since team Inquizzitive 9 organized an Online Quiz contest whose winners were awarded in the actual quiz event. Along with it, some extravagant features were added to the quiz as well like Online Photography Contests and Poster Designing competition which increased positive responses from the audience. It has been a part of the successive quizzing events and the reactions have mostly been positive.

The marking system on online non-quiz contests is somewhat uniform, the basis of marking is partially based on "likes" gained on the post on Facebook and mainly based on the decision of the evaluating team from Inquizztive.

The online competitions have featured- Photography contests, Photo-manipulation contests, Poster-designing competitions and Online quiz.

Budget and Publicity[edit]

The budget has seen a significant rise throughout all the successive years resulting to addition of more technical elements and better stage effects. Inquizzitive started with a minimal budget and grew as in the successive years.

Millennium Students Quiz was funded by the organizers with an approximate budget of Rs. 2,500. Inquizzitive 1 had a similar budget from the same organizers. Inquizzitive XI had an estimated budget of Rs. 3.5 Lakhs and Inquizzitive 12 approximately had a budget of Rs. 4 Lakhs.
