I Hate You - I Love You
I Hate You - I Love You is a 2021 Indian Tamil-language anthology web series consisting of five episodes created and produced by Dev Karthick and Shree Karthick, under their content studio Madboys Pvt. Ltd. The episodes were written and directed by Shree Karthick, Vignesh Raja, Vinayak Vaithianathan, Abhinay Athrey wrote the screenplay for one episode. The series features Gayathrie Shankar, Kanna Ravi, Vidya Pradeep, Dev, Teju Ashwini, Vinayak Vaithianathan, Samyuktha Vishwanathan, Sachin Nachiappan and Sanjana Krishnamurthy in the lead roles.
It revolves around the lives of 5 couples who are amidst an emotional breakdown, and how their love inevitably brings them together in the end. The first episode of the series was aired on 10 February 2021, to coincide the Valentine's Day. Each episode was aired on every Wednesday, with an episode per week and the season finale airing on 10 March 2021.

Alarm[edit]
Rahul (Kanna Ravi) and Sneha (Gayathrie Shankar) have started therapy recently to work on their marriage. Upon their psychologist's insistence on taking frequent trips, they are both spending the weekend in Wayanad. On their first night there, they get into a minor argument about who gets to decide the alarm tone. And soon they digress, and things escalate quickly as the tempers rise. They later compromise each other, and their weekend getaway ends with a happy note
Searching[edit]
Having become parents recently, Vishnu (Dev) and Shruthi (Vidya Pradeep) are having a stressful time adjusting to the new routine. Shruthi is searching for her pregnancy test kit, and blames Vishnu for misplacing it. They are amidst a heated argument, nervously trying to search for it; all this while trying hard not to wake up their 8 month old baby. During the argument, Shruthi found her pregnancy kit, for which she tested negative. Later Vishnu and Shruthi understand themselves and end their fight.

Varun (Sachin Nachiappan) is miffed at Shalini (Samyuktha Vishwanathan) for following a male colleague of hers on Instagram. Repeated phone calls and texts get on her nerves, and she lashes back. The argument escalates to what seems to be a point of no return, no repair.

Kaushik (Vinayak Vaithianathan) and Kavya (Teju Ashwini), a newly married couple, are running late to a get together. They know where they want to go, but Kaushik thinks Kavya's directions aren't helping them get there. They swap roles, and with the same results, especially because Kaushik is a massive mansplainer.

A tired, heart broken Pallavi (Sanjana Krishnamurthy) wakes up to demeaning, sarcastic remarks on her social media. She decides to delete the post that created the uproar only to find her password changed. Knowing that it is the work of her ex-boyfriend Vikram (Vignesh Mohan), she gives him one last call.

Production[edit]
Chennai-based video content studio Madboys Creatives led by Actor Dev and Director Shree Karthick, was prominent for backing short films, web shows and advertisements. In February 2021, the studio announced their foray into producing original content with their first anthology titled I Hate You - I Love You. The series which consists of five episodes, was directed by Shree Karthick, Vignesh Raja and Vinayak Vaithianathan who also wrote the script for the episodes, and Abhinav Athrey served as the additional writer. The production was planned amidst the Pandemic and executed carefully following all safety standards. The poster of the series was released on 8 February followed by its trailer on 10 February.
Soundtrack[edit]
The background score for the series is composed by RH Vikram, Jakes Bejoy and Bharath Shankar, whereas the album is composed by Vikram who released it through his independent band Staccato. The original soundtrack theme twas released later on 19 March 2021.The team released the lyric video of the track "Pidiththa Kirukkey" on 31 March 2021, but was delayed unexpectedly due to technical reasons, and later released on 31 March.

Release[edit]
The first episode of the series titled Alarm was released directly through the YouTube channel of the studio on 10 February 2021. Each episode has more than twenty three lakh views on YouTube. The final episode from the series was aired on 10 March
Reception[edit]
Ashutosh Mohan of Film Companion stated "The five-episode web series looks at messy, and sometimes dark, arguments between couples from a light-hearted perspective. Each of the five episodes in the anthology series zooms in on a single event from a couple’s relationship. In ten minutes or so we get a sharp and economical portrayal of an argument followed by a clever resolution. The episodes are often intelligent and always amusing.”
