Brig Gen Ian Johnson SM MMM was a General Officer in the South African Army from the artillery and who later served as Chief of Staff South African Army Support Formation Headquarters from 2011.
Military career[edit]
He joined the SADF in 1973. He was commissioned as an officer and subsequently served as Transport Officer, Battery Commander at 14 Field Regiment, then taking over command as the Operational 4 Artillery Regiment Plus Commander when Commandant Johann du Randt was killed in action during September 1987. He completed the SA Army Senior Staff Course in 1989. After that he was appointed second-in-command of 10 Artillery Brigade. He was transferred to the Army Headquarters in 1991 with a promotion to colonel in 1991 where he ran the Weapon Systems programme of the combat support capability until 2011 under different names and guises. In 1999 he was promoted to brigadier general and served as Director Army Product Systems Management until 2011. Chief of Staff Support Formation during 2011 to 2016.
