Nicholas Adam Beatrice, known professionally as "ill Nicky", is an American musician.[1]

Early life

Nicholas Beatrice was born in Boston, Massachusetts. At about age 10, Nickyโ€™s family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area.[2] Nicky grew up listening to the music of fellow Bay Area musicians E-40 and Mac Dre. Nicky's brothers had converted a portion of his bedroom into a music recording space, which is where he started recording for the first time.[3]

Career

At age 19, Nicky moved to San Diego and quickly established himself as a performing artist in the city. As an independent musician, Nicky frequently worked with people in the music industry and started his own independent music label, "The I Love Life Movement" also known as "The ill Movement."[4]

Under the name "Nicky B" and with the help of DJ Deecon and Roadeezy, Nicky recorded and mixed his first mixtape Hungry in 2009. [5] He then released a studio album My Name Is Nicholas in 2012. Nicky worked with Cheeba Hawk to release the album Breaking and Entering. [6] Nicky briefly moved back to the Bay Area and worked with audio mixer Sean Powers to create another mixtape The iLL Nicky Experiment. It was with this album that Nicky took on the alias "ill Nicky".

Nicky's first major breakthrough was as a headliner gig at The Music Box in San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood.[7] After that show, Nicky was approached by Dawty Music, a musical production duo, to write a song called "Faded."

In 2019, Nicky moved to Los Angeles to work with a record label. [8] With the help of fellow musician and music producers Billion Bassy and Count Bassy, Nicky launched a recording studio, Studio 403. Nicky also collaborated with his colleagues to launch a publishing company, the ill Music Group.

Nicky worked with Cheeba Hawk and Jared Anthony to create the song "Photograph" which was licensed to the videogame NBA2K21.[9] The song was commercially successful and earned praise through several media outlets, with Screen Rant ranking the song #5 on their list of Top 10 best songs on the video game.[10] Photograph was also added to "Now Loading," a Spotify editorial playlist showcasing the most iconic video game songs of 2021.

In 2021, Nicky entered into a significant streaming deal with Twitch.[11] As part of this collaboration, they launched the "I Love Life Stream," which reached the top spot on Twitch Music in May of the same year based upon an audience of over 15,000 viewers.

In September, Nicky released the studio album Virgil.[12] The album featured five songs including "Crosses" and "Come Alive" which were released as singles.

The next year, Nicky entered into an agreement for synchronization licensing with First Note Play.[13] The deal secured synch placements for Nicky's music with the Paramount+ TV show The Game.

In 2023, Nicky released an EP "Love You, Love You Not" ahead of Valentine's Day.[14] In July, he released the single "Back Home".[15]
