IoTeX is a decentralized, open-source network based on blockchain technology. The project is headquartered in Singapore.

It is seen as the chief rival of fellow Internet of Things (IoT) blockchain project IOTA.[citation needed]

History[edit]

Raullen Chai, Qevan Guo and Jing Sun are the co-founder's of IoTex [4]. The project was funded by a private sale completed in February 2018 [5].

IoTeX received the CES Innovation Award 2020 Honoree in the Cybersecurity & Personal Privacy category with Ucam, a home security camera based on the IoTeX Blockchain.[6]

On October 3 2018 IoTeX joined the Trusted IoT Alliance, later merged into the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) which IoTeX joined as a member as well[7].

Consensus Networks is building a health net for the US Navy on the IoTeX platform to monitor the health of its marines and sailors in real-time [8]. IoTeX Co-Founder Dr. Xinxin Fan chairs the IEEE 2958 [9]. The IEEE group includes Lockheed Martin, Ericsson, Lenovo, Huawei, and Robert Bosh. They are working on global standards for blockchain-based decentralized identities. [10].

Whitepaper[edit]

The official white paper has been published on July 12, 2018.[11]

Decentralized Identity[edit]

IoTeX's Xinxin Fan, Ph.D., chairs the IEEE 2958 Digital Identity working group that seeks global standardization of decentralized IDs for smart devices and machines [12]. Blockchain interoperability via decentralized IDs is crucial for the success of the Internet of Things (IoT), people, and enterprises. It is possible to advance global trade, economic development, and local communities around the world by eliminating technological hurdles and enabling diverse entities to communicate with worldwide standards [13].

Mass Adoption Products[edit]

Ucam[edit]

To date, IoTeX Blockchain has been used in Ucam, a home security camera produced by Tenvis [14]. The camera utilizes an IoTeX blockchain account as a login mechanism to replace the common username/password login mechanism, to prevent unauthorized access to the device that leverages common username/password attacks like Brute Force, Dictionary, Credential Stuffing attacks, and others. The private key of the blockchain account assigned to the camera is also used to encrypt the camera streaming and to share the footage only with people authorized by the camera owner [15]

Pebble Tracker[edit]

IoTeX Blockchain is has been integrated into "Pebble Tracker"[16], an enterprise cellular IoT asset tracking device that acts as a source for "trusted data", that can then be used as input for smart-contracts. Pebble Tracker is currently the first real-world demo for enabling decentralized IoT data authorization using Decentralized identifiers and Verifiable credentials[17].

MachineFi[edit]

In November 2021, IoTeX launched MachineFi, an offering that will "connect the real world to the metaverse and unleash a new decentralized machine economy."[18]

IoTeX blockchain[edit]

The US Navy is piloting a blockchain-based health network to monitor the health of all their marines and sailors in real-time[19]. IoTeX is an auto-scalable blockchain platform for the decentralized smart device and blockchain connectivity, and instead of connecting all IoT nodes into one single blockchain, IoTeX groups the IoT nodes into subchains. In this regard, IoTeX is basically a network of many blockchains that are hierarchically arranged, where many blockchains can run concurrently with one another while retaining interoperability [20]
