Ioulia Khovrina Komninos is a Cypriot politician, founder and leader of the United Cyprus Republican Party (UCRP).[1] Komninos came to the center stage of Cyprus politics in early February 2021 when, as an independent new force candidate, she won parliamentary elections primaries in Limassol.[2] UCRP was registered[3] shortly after and ever since Komninos as party leader is steering UCRP to establish a viable political center on the island of Cyprus.

Biography[edit]

Ioulia Khovrina Komninos belongs to a famous Greek Khovrin clan related to Komnenos and Gabras dynasties.[4] Komninos graduated world top universities and was awarded degrees in diplomacy, economics and finance. Faithful to family values and philanthropy, Komninos shares her knowledge through various unique publications such as “Byzantium: The Fall and Resurrection”, “Biological and Artificial Intelligence: Mission Defined”,[5] “Crypto-currency: Present and Future”.

Views[edit]

Meritocratic society[edit]

Komninos stands for meritocratic society with an affordable access to the knowledge, technology, finance and ultimately to happiness. She shares common good values of the Greek polis and vote for using common wealth for common good in the best of an ancient Greek tradition.[6]

Self-determination[edit]

The national question and the manifestation of national identity is a new trend in Europe. However, segregation along religious lines is unacceptable and is a dead end. The essence of the solution to the conflict in Cyprus is the realization of the right of citizens to self-determination without the military intervention of foreign states, relying on the economy.[7]

National currency[edit]

National money and national monetary policy were proved to be effective in the past. Velocity of national money could be increased via negative interest rates. National money does not need to be anchored to commodity but to the national productive assets. National money as a sovereign unit of account would enable the nation to fair value sovereign assets.[8]

Sovereign Cyprus with its own national currency, the Cypriot pound, successfully survived the economic crisis of the collapse of the local stock market, when, according to various estimates, about 13 billion pounds were lost. Nevertheless, the banking system was preserved, the economy worked. Cyprus met the crisis of 2013 as a member of the euro bloc. With comparable losses (about 7.7 billion euros), Cyprus lost the two largest systemic banks, Cyprus Popular Bank and the Cyprus co-op bank while the Republic's external debt increased to 28 billion US dollars. The liquidity crisis has taken on a nationwide scale. It is almost impossible to relaunch the economy of Cyprus without conducting its own monetary policy and without the introduction of a national currency.[9]

Energy[edit]

Komninos is calling for the energy policy designed specifically for Cyprus. In particular she is calling to strengthen The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). The thermal power stations operated by EAC may well be modified to accommodate alternative fuel like lignin coal with a low CO2 signature. On a long-term basis emphasis should be paid to the economic prosperity of Cyprus households and traditional businesses as barometer to introduce alternative types of electrical supply like fuel cells.[10]

Consensus among Cyprus citizens is needed when huge energy projects are promoted by the Government, including interconnections of power grids and liberalization of utilities.

Liberalization of utilities would further reduce the incentive for the private actors to keep “reserved” capacity increasing dramatically risk of a major blackout in Cyprus.

Special attention should be given to the protection of the seabed ecosystems around Cyprus effected by the development of the underwater cables and off-shore rigs. It is now scientifically proven that seabed CO2 emissions are greatly increased when destroying such ecosystems by dredging, deep sea cabling, oil and gas rigs installations.

Bio-intelligence[edit]

Humanity needs greater and greater quantity of population for selective mind sampling.

Biointelligence needs freedom to develop knowledge necessary for our civilization to expand into the universe. AI created a dangerous hype that population can be replaced by robots.[11]

Hellenism[edit]

The most sacred value of Hellenism can be defined as follows. Power as Plato said is above private interest. But power comes at a price. This price is that a collective decision (κοινῇ γνώμῃ – kini gnomi) is above private one. So the real leader of the nation should be a conduit of kini gnomi or collection decision of the nation. The last words of the last Roman emperor were, “I do not have the right to give you the City, nor does anyone else of those who live in it. By a collective decision (κοινῇ γνώμῃ – kini gnomi), we will all willingly die and not try to save our lives”.[12]
