The Iranian American Sport and Culture Association (IASA) is a non-profit sports organization formed in Los Angeles in 2013.
Background[edit]
IASA was formed in 2013 in response to International Olympic Committee's proposal to drop wrestling from the games starting in 2020.[1]
IASA was founded to bring together the people of two communities of Iranians and Americans through sports, promote friendship, build mutual understanding, and to engage with the future US-Iranian sport exchanges events. IASA seeks to develop in members, the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty and respect for authority, and using sport as a tool to promote positive social change in the lives of young people and to prevent substance abuse and violence among youth. In addition, IASA strives to preserve, expand and advance interests of Iranian-American sports including: wrestling, Pahlevani and zoorkhaneh rituals, Backgammon, Polo, etc. In addition, IASA supports women's sports, and promoting women's sports in underrepresented sports and communities. Finally IASA aims to supervise, sponsor and assist a disciplined and competitive sports academy and program of wrestling, pahalvani, and zoorkhaneh.[2]
