Ishtiaque Ahmad Qasmi (Urdu: اشتیاق احمد قاسمی‎; born 07 January 1978) is an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar, academic and a litterateur of Urdu and jurist. and has been a teacher at Darul Uloom Deoband for thirteen years.

Biography[edit]

Ishtiaq Ahmed was born on 7 January, 1978 in Jhagrua, Kiratpur Block, Darbhanga District, Bihar, India.[1]

He was educated at Madrasa Maarif-ul-Uloom Jhagrua, Madrasa Falah-ul-Muslimeen, Bikram, Patna; Madrasa Qasim-ul-Uloom, Mangrawan, Azamgarh district and Madrasa Riaz-ul-Uloom, Gurini, Jaunpur district (U.P).[1] He graduated from Darul Uloom Deoband in 1996, From there, he conducted Ifta in 1997 and Fatwa writing from 1998 to 1999, and received training in fatwa writing from 1998 to 1999.[1][2] His teachers at Darul Uloom Deoband included Mahmood Hasan Gangohi, Zafeeruddin Miftahi, Saeed Ahmad Palanpuri, Abdul Haq Azmi, Habibur Rahman Qasmi Azami, Arshad Madani Usman Mansoorpuri and Habibur Rahman Khairabadi.[1] He read Sahih al-Bukhari from Shaykh Naseer Ahmad Khan Bulandshahri.[1]

After graduation, he was as an assistant professor at Darul Uloom Deoband for two years, then from 2000 to 2008 he was a teacher and Deputy Mufti at Darul Uloom Hyderabad, Telengana and since then he has been a teacher of grammar (Sarf o Nah'u), jurisprudence and commentary of Quran at Darul Uloom Deoband.[1][2]

Literacy works[edit]

He is one of the best commentators on Urdu language and a well-known essayist among scholars.[1]

He holds M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D degrees from Maulana Azad National Urdu University Hyderabad in Urdu.[1] The title of the M.Phil article was: "چند منتخب علمائے دیوبند کی شاعری کا تجزیاتی مطالعہ" (

); This article contained an analytical study of the published poetry of Qari Muhammad Tayyib, former superintendent of Darul Uloom Deoband, Kafilur Rahman Nishat Usmani, former mufti of Darul Uloom Deoband and Riyāsat Alī Zafar Bijnori, Vice President of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. The title of the Ph.D dissertation was: "علمائے دیوبند کی اردو سوانح نگاری کا تنقیدی جائزہ (آزادی سے قبل)" (

  • Zaib o Zīnat ke Ahkām (The rules of adornment in Islam)
  • An urdu translation of "Mala Budda Minhu", a persian book on Islamic jurisprudence, written by Sanaullah Panipati.
