She is a human rights defender and, in May 2013, joined former Premier of Manitoba Howard Pawley in opposing a proposed trespass law in Windsor arguing that the proposed law "violates our rights as Canadian citizens."[2]

Early career and education[edit]

Miles is an alumnus of General Amherst High School.[3] She spent four years at this high school and was sexually bullied there all four years.[4] She is the founder of Break the Silence, an organization opposing human trafficking, sexual assault, domestic violence, and bullying.[5][6][7]

In 2012 Miles was named Miss Canada.[8][9][10] Subsequently, she was a host on TaggTV's reality-television-style Facebook videos about Guyana.[11][12][13] Miles traveled to Guyana where she gave presentations against domestic violence.[11][14] In December 2012 year she replaced American comedian Stephen Colbert as Grand Marshal of the Santa Claus parade in Windsor, Ontario.[15][16][17]

Miles has graduated with a BA in family studies and French from the University of Windsor, obtained a B.Ed. from Western Faculty of Education. [18][19][20] She had previously attended Brescia University College until she took a break from studying in order to take care of her brother who was injured in a car accident.[21]

In 2013 Miles won the Young Woman of Excellence Award at London, Ontario's YMCA, stood in for Miss Canada, and mentored Miss Teen Canada of that year.[22][23][24] She coached other pageants in 2014.[25][26][24][27]
