Jacqueline Legrand (born May 3, 1961) is an American business executive. She is the current CEO of MDS Portugal and Member of the Board of MDS Holding, an insurance brokerage firm based in Europe. Prior to joining MDS in April 2012, she held the positions of Managing Director in charge of the international business at Crystal & company, the largest family owned insurance brokerage in the USA, located in Wall Street NY. In addition to her role as CEO of MDS Portugal, Legrand is also Regional Director Europe Middle East Africa (EMEA) at Brokerslink, one of the largest independent insurance broker networks in the world.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Legrand graduated from ESLSCA, Paris, France receiving a Master of Business Administration in 1984. She received her Bachelor degree in Mathematics and Physics at Lycée Berthollet Annecy, France in 1979. She is the recipient of the NY State Insurance Broker License and ARM (Associate in Risk Management) diploma from the Insurance Institute of America. Legrand also attended a Marketing Management program in Columbia University, NY in 2000 and a program of Finance for Senior Executives at Harvard Business School in 2012.

Career[edit]

After graduating in 1984, Legrand went to work for IBM as a sales representative. In 1990 she joined THEOREME Insurance Brokerage in Paris, France, in charge of the national accounts and became few years later a Member of the Board. She moved to New York, USA and joined Crystal & Company,[2] insurance brokerage firm in Wall Street, NY in 2006.[3] She developed the international business of the company and ended up managing the international department. In 2012, she joined MDS Holdings as Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board and a year later is appointed CEO of MDS Portugal in addition to her responsibilities at the MDS Holdings level.[4] Legrand has been much involved in the development of Brokerslink, one of the largest global networks of independent insurance brokers. In 2009, she was appointed COO North America and then became Regional Director EMEA.[5]

Boards and honors[edit]

  • Legrand serves on the Board of Directors of MDS SGPS, the holding company of MDS Group. MDS Group is a joint venture between Sonae Group (Portugal – 50.01%) and Suzano Group (Brazil – 49.99%).
  • In 2014, Legrand is appointed as Conseiller du Commerce Extérieur de la France and became a member of the Comité National des Conseillers du Commerce Extérieur de la France.

She also serves on the Board of Directors for the following companies:

  • MDS Portugal, the largest insurance broker in Portugal
  • MDS Brazil, the third largest insurance broker in Brazil
  • MDS Africa
  • HighDome PCC, a registered insurance and reinsurance company domiciled in Malta and regulated by the MFSA (Malta Financial Services Authority).

Personal life[edit]

Legrand is married to Ernest Legrand, CEO of WEBCBG, a Technology firm based in New York. The couple have two children.[6]
