James Grech is the Executive Head of Foreign Bank Relationships department at Bank of Valletta and is a candidate for the European Parliament Elections of 2019. James will be representing the Labour Party.

James is married to Fiona. They have two children namely Thomas and Thea. Both Thomas and Thea are avid athletes with Thomas practicing athletics and Thea karate. Both Thea and Thomas are members of the scouts.

Career[edit]

Professionally, Mr Grech’s career, who is from Zabbar, commenced as a Management Accountant.

He then joined Bank of Valletta in 1998 and currently he is the Executive Head of Foreign Bank Relationships department. He served as Worker Director of the bank for the period 2004 till 2008.

In December 2014 he got elected on the Board of directors from the shareholders of the Bank and he still holds this position, to date. He is also a member of the Asset and Liability committee, Credit Committee and Risk Management Committee of the Bank. He also serves as a member on the European’s Banking Federation Correspondent banking task force and also served as Chairman of the board of trustees of the BOV Employees’ Foundation.

Mr Grech who is 44 years old, is also a director of other local companies and a recognised member of the Institute of Directors - UK. He holds an Honours degree in Management and a Masters in Business Administration from Henley Management College, UK. His dissertation focused on the effectiveness of Board performance and Corporate Governance. He has lectured on Financial Services at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, and on Corporate Governance at the University of Malta.
