Jane Assimakopoulos
Jane A. Assimakopoulos is an American-born writer and translator who lives in Ioannina, Greece.[1]
Life[edit]
She graduated from Brandeis University, in 1964.[2] Her brother was William Nisselson.[3]
Assimakopoulos' translations are mostly of Greek books and articles, although she has also translated a few works written in French. Assimakopoulos has translated these into English, including works translated in England and in the United States.
The writers whose works she has translated into English include Thanassis Valtinos, Yiannis Kontos, Sotiris Dimitriou, Ioannis G. Tsatsaris and Katerina Anghelaki-Rooke. World Literature Today wrote that her translation work on Valtinos' Data from the Decade of the Sixties: a Novel turned the Greek into "compelling reading in English."[4] Assimakopoulos's translation of Deep Blue, Almost Black: Selected Fiction by Valtinos was also called "expertly translated" by World Literature Today.[5]
Her work appeared in Metamorphoses.[6]
