Janelle Heatley Hinnant
Janelle Heatley Hinnant is an American playwright, actress, and singer. She was the recipient of the AUDELCO award in 2012 for a play she co-wrote with Jaylene Clark Owens and Hollis Heath, "Renaissance in the Belly of a Killer Whale."[1] She holds a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from the State University of New York at Purchase, and her recent credits include “The Odyssey” (Circe) and “Intimate Apparel” (Mayme).[2] She is currently pursuing a Masters in Educational Theater.[3]
In 2010, while a student at SUNY Purchase, Hinnant was injured in a stage accident.[4] She married Jamal Hinnant in 2012.[5]
Hinnant has started two organizations that serve youth in the community, Harlem Youth Arts Alliance and Spoke n' Heard, which currently have four chapters at various colleges and universities in New York. She also conducts poetry/performance workshops for high school graduates.[6]
