The Japan Sake and Shochu Information Center is an educational center focused on Japanese sake, shochu, and awamori operated by the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association[1]. The center opened in 2016 and is located in Nishi-Shimbashi, Minato Ward in Tokyo, Japan. The center’s purpose is to provide resources to the public to learn about Japanese alcoholic drinks by “Seeing,” “Touching,” and “Experiencing.”[2][3][4] It is also featured as a tourist attraction in Shinbashi.[5][6][7][8]
History[edit]
Before the Japan Sake and Shochu Information Center, the "SAKE PLAZA" was established in Ginza, Tokyo in 1981 by the Japan Sake and Shochu Association.[9] The Japan Sake Center closed in May 1998 and was succeeded by the "Japan Sake and Shochu Information Center" which opened in 11,Angust 2016[10][11]. Shuso Imada is the first and current General Manager of the Japan Sake & Shochu Information Center since its establishment in 2016.[12]
Facilities[edit]
- Museum - Collection of tutorial and documentary videos, real samples of ingredients and brewing tools, and sake cups and vessels.[4]
- Concierge - Staff provides information on how to purchase sake, shochu, and awamori across Japan.[4]
- Tasting Bar - Bar to sample and compare various brands and labels.[13][4][14]
- Events - Hosting of sake and shochu events, tastings, and seminars.
- Shop - Range of sake and shochu and cups and vessels from across Japan.[13]
Activities[edit]
- VR Sake Brewery Tour - 360° view VR tours of the sake brewing process using VR headsets were introduced to the Information Center in February 2020.[13]
