Jason Ebeyer (born December 4, 1992) is a 3D artist and art director from Melbourne, Australia.[1]. He is known for his highly detailed figures and for pioneering the glossy style of character art which has become his signature.

Early Life[edit]

Jason Ebeyer was born in 1992 in Melbourne, Australia. He studied at various schools growing up but spent his formative years receiving education at Deniliquin High School in rural NSW. It was here that his love for art and creativity bloomed, leading him to leave school at the age of 16 in pursuit of further artistic education.

In 2014, Ebeyer returned to Melbourne to study graphic design at university. He attended classes at Tractor School of Design (FKA Grenadi School of Design) in the CBD. He graduated in 2016 and received The Johannes Gutenberg award - which is awarded to the student “who looks for the bigger picture and achieves the most creative outcomes.”

Career[edit]

Ebeyer is known for his glossy figures and sensual style of artwork. Of the medium, he commented in an 2021 interview: “ I've worked across lots of different mediums, from traditional illustration and painting, through to photo manipulation and collage and then finally falling into 3D softwares. I settled with this medium because it truly enabled me to produce the work and figures that I imagine.”[2]

Jason’s first major commercial project is often cited as being the 2018 animated video and accompanying artwork for the song “Bloom” by Troye Sivan[3]. Ebeyer created the 3D animated video over a 4 week period in collaboration with Troye. After the “Bloom” video dropped, interest in Ebeyer’s art took off, he created live concert visuals for Sabrina Carpenter’s performance at iHeart Radio Wango Tango and signed a management deal with renowned Los Angeles creative agency, H+ Creative[4] in the following months.

2019 saw Jason’s notoriety continue to grow as he stepped into the role of designing and animating the launch campaign for Nikita Dragun’s cosmetics company, Dragun Beauty. Creating a stylized 3D version of Nikita, Ebeyer’s animation referenced scenes from the film “Beowulf'' to showcase the influencer’s products and brand. Within this year Jason also worked on projects for Bebe Rexha, Ramsey, Vials, Commons & Sense and Vogue Italia.

The following year saw Ebeyer animate the music video for the Steve Aoki and Icona Pop track "I Love My Friends" which released in March, 2020. Trailing the release of the music video, Jason was approached for a collaborative project with the Tom of Finland Foundation and adult entertainment company, MEN.com[5]. Jason recreated four adult film stars for the collaboration and animated them in surreal and alien worlds. The resulting animations were then spliced into the live action footage and released on May 8th. During this time, Ebeyer was simultaniously working on large works for HUDA Beauty, Kim Petras and two more projects with Nikita Dragun, including the launch campaign for her Morphe collaboration palette. In September of 2020, Vogue Italia contacted Jason to particiapte in a 10 page editorial spread for the coveted September Issue[6]. 2020 also saw Jason sign onto his biggest collaborative project to date. Ebeyer was tasked with the role of creating and developing character concepts and concept artwork for Sensorium Galaxy[7], an immersive VR platform which is due launch in late 2021. The project has seen Jason conceptualize over 100 characters, each with distinct styles and looks.

In 2021, Jason partnered up with famed American Photographer, Steven Klein. Together the pair created the March cover for V Magazine featuring a heavily stylized and surreal reimaginaing of rap star, Doja Cat. Ebeyer states in an interview with the magazine: "I had a call with Doja just to get to know a little more about her and help me get a better understanding of herself and also the stylized character we would be producing. My first step in the 3D process was to create a realistic model of Doja after which Steven and myself went in and adjusted to create this stunning stylized embodiment of Doja who exists in this digital environment."[8]

Cryptoart[edit]

With the emerging popularity of cryptoart and NFTs in late 2020, Jason was approached by curators at IV Gallery in Los Angeles to produce a mini collection of work for the platform Nifty Gateway. His debut collection released on November 6, 2020 and sold out within seconds of launch. Following the popularity of this collection, Ebeyer minted artwork on NFT platforms SuperRare and Foundation before returning to Nifty Gateway for a sophmore collection. Ebeyer's second collection for Nifty Gateway was again presented by IV Gallery and is credited as being one of the most gender diverse collections to be released on the platform[9]. The "Metamorphosis" collection released on March 31, 2021 and once again sold out in seconds. In April of that same year, Jason was approached by the estate of the late Marilyn Monroe to see if he would be interested in producing a special NFT artwork to celebrate the icon's 95th birthday. The "Marilyn Monroe Birthday Collection"[10] released on June 1, 2021 as a three day auction on NFT platform Ethernity. Ebeyer's piece honouring the star was auctioned off along side other renowned artists like Blake Kathryn[11]
