Jator (swati pashtun tribe)
Jator ( Urdu: جاٹوڑ) is a clan of Swati (Pashtun tribe). dwelling in Batamori, Battagram District , Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Pakistan. they extend from the sub-tribe of Panjmiral-swati, and are one of the largest land owning groups of batamori. Sher ali baba was there early known tribal chief (مشر), after him, his youngest son Khan wali took the responsibility of his people. Khan wali was an intellectual, and a famous poet. some of his poems are recited in the local Pashto radio channels. After the death of Khan wali in 1936, his 15 years old son janas khan became the chief of jators in a very difficult time.
The Nawab of hill Rustum khan was a growing force at that time, areas were falling under his rule one after another, and his newly formed state was growing larger and largre. he tried to make the valley of battamori a capital of his state, but that was not an easy task since Batamori was occupied by some large tribes like jators and kumaldini. He decided to take one of the largest tribes on his side. To accomplish his desire, he had a meeting with the chief of Jators Janas khan and his brother Younis Malik at the house of Aka mula in batamori. the Nawab requested Janas khan to help him extending his state, not to interfere between him and the rest of the tribes, and as a result he will build a Mansion (Qala قلعه) for Janas khan and his family. Janas khan refused by saying that he will always protect his people and there lands. soon the Nawab got support from other tribes by bribing, and building mansions for them. Janas khan was deeply hurted by the selfishness of the tribal leaders, he understood that the difficult time has arrived. First they were exiled from battamori to the neighboring Rajdahari village, then to the village of Bazar ge for more than six years. during the exile, Janas khan and other tribal chiefs of Battagram formed an allaince to finish the unjust rule of the nawabs and khawaneen, so they went to the pakistani authorities and invited them to merge there areas with the state of pakistan. in 1959 the exile was over from jators, they got there lands and houses back from the servants of the nawab and started living in the free state of pakistan. janas khan died six months latter at the age of 25 due to tuberculosis, there was no cure for the disease at that time. Younis malik became his successor. He was elected as a General Counselor of the U C-Battamori many times until he died in 2002. the current chief is Qari muhammad sharif the eldest son of Younis malik. Saeed ullah a younger brother of Qari sharif was elected the chariman of the union council in the year 2004. Education is an important factor in the lives of the new members of the tribe. there are medical/and Phd doctors, engineers, accountants, religious scholars etc. The Jator Hujra is located in the center of batamori beside the grand (جامع مسجد). the main source of income is the middle east.
