Jim Reed (attorney)
Jim Reed (1950)[1] is the Democratic nominee running for office in California's 3rd State Assembly district in the November 2014 election.
A former football player for the UCB Golden Bears,[2] Jim Reed began campaigning for office in 2006 when he ran unsuccessfully for a seat as Judge on the Superior Court of California - County of Shasta.[3] He made a second unsuccessful bid for the same office in 2008.[4][5]
In 2010 he ran unsuccessfully against 2nd congressional district member Wally Herger,[6] losing to Herger by 7 percentage points.[7]
In 2012 he was the Democratic congressional candidate in California's 1st congressional district, a region north of Sacramento.[8][9] After losing to Doug La Malfa, he moved from his ranch in Fall River Mills to Red Bluff to run in the California 3rd Assembly District against Republican James Gallagher.[10][11][12] The 3rd Assembly District extends from Red Bluff in the north, south to Yuba City.[13]
Jim Reed is lead attorney at Nichols, Catterton, Downing & Reed,[14] in partnership with his wife, Carol Veres Reed, the Probate and Estate Planning attorney in the family firm.[15]
Reed's brother-in-law, attorney Richard K. Veres and daughter, attorney Brooke Veres Reed are partners in the firm, which has offices throughout California.
In 2014, Reed's many endorsements include the California Democratic Party, the California Labor Federation, the California Teachers Association, the California Teamsters Public Affairs Council, and Planned Parenthood Shasta Pacific Action Fund Board among many others.[8]
