John Blakey (author)
John Blakey (born 1964) is a British author, academic, and executive coach.
He is best known for his work on leadership and trust in business and has published several books on the subject,
including Challenging Coaching (2012), The Trusted Executive (2016), and Force for Good (2024).
Early life and education
Blakey was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, in 1964. He studied chemistry at the University of Nottingham, graduating with honours. He later graduated with an MBA from Aston Business School, an MSc from Coventry University, and a doctorate in business administration (DBA) from Aston Business School in 2019.[1]
Career
Business career
Blakey began his career with British Gas and Cadbury Schweppes before joining the leadership team of Team121, a fast-growing SAP consultancy .[2] In 1999, Team121 was acquired by Logica plc, after which Blakey became an international managing director at the company.[3] In 2002, he was appointed Director of Coaching at Logica,[4] marking his entry into the UK coaching profession. He later co-founded the coaching practice 121partners with Olympic rower, Bill Barry, with a focus on bringing the lessons from elite sports coaching into the world of business[5]
Writing
Blakey's first, Challenging Coaching (2012, co-authored with Ian Day), introduced the FACTS coaching model[6] In 2016, he published The Trusted Executive, which drew on his doctoral research at Aston Business School, and detailed the Nine Habits of Trust model.[7] The book was shortlisted for the Chartered Management Institute’s Management Book of the Year award.[8] In 2024, he published Force for Good, which was shortlisted for the Institute of Leadership’s Book of the Year award.[9]
Blakey is also a professional sepaker represented by the London Spekaer Bureau[10]. His ideas and research have been featured in publications such as 'BBC News', 'The Sunday Times', 'The Guardian' and 'Inc.' [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] and he is a regular contributor to Forbes.[16]

Blakey lives in Birmingham, England, with his wife, Jane.
