History
John Charcol first opened in 1974 and was named after its three founders, John Garfield, Charles Wishart and Colin Studd.[2] The company was acquired by Towergate in 2010, shortly after it entered administration.[3]
In 2015, John Charcol was acquired from Towergate by Palatine Private Equity.[4] Following the acquisition, the Financial Times reported that John Charcol planned to double the number of advisers within its network.[5]
In April 2019, Ray Boulger, a senior mortgage technical manager at John Charcol, appeared on an ITV broadcast presented by Martin Lewis where he was asked to comment on fixed-rate mortgages.[6] Boulger has been employed by John Charcol since 1989.[7]
