John D Wood is Commercial Property Consultancy operating in the United Kingdom with an office in Egypt. The core of the business is commercial property management.
History[edit]
John Daniel Wood founded his eponymous company opposite The Connaught Hotel in Mount Street, London, in 1872, at the age of 23..[1] [2] Following this, John D Wood expanded rapidly, advertising regularly in Country Life in the early 1900’s – an arrangement that continues to this day.[3]
The post war decade saw the business regularly took instructions on great London houses and country estates, including the sale of National Sporting Club in Covent Garden and of impressive country estates like Donington Hall, Leeds Castle in Kent and Parham Park in Sussex.[4] [5] This era included the sale of Dorchester House, Park Lane for £400,000 to the McAlpine family who rebuilt it as The Dorchester Hotel [6]. In 1930 the company moved headquarters to Berkeley Square where the firm's headquarters remained until the late 1980s.[7]
In 1982 the commercial and residential arms of John D Wood separated to form John D Wood & Co. (Residential and Agricultural) and John D Wood (Commercial). In 1987 the Residential and Agricultural arm floated on the London Stock Exchange as John D Wood & Co., and in 1997, when its growth proved attractive to investors, the listed company was acquired by Hambro Countrywide plc[8]. In 1998, Hambros de-merged the newly created Countrywide Assured Group plc., which is now known as Countrywide and part of the Connells Group [9]
Today[edit]
Today, John D Wood (Commercial) still exists as John D Wood where they operate as Commercial Property Consultants offering a wide range of services. Through various divisions, they cover commercial management, lettings agency, investment agency, valuations and project management.
