John G. (Jack) Samson (March 19, 1922 - March 18, 2007) was an author who wrote books, mostly about outdoor subjects, fishing[1] and saltwater fly fishing.
He held the fly-rod world record for roosterfish and was the first known "fly fisherman in the world to catch Atlantic and Pacific sailfish and all five species of marlin on a fly."[2] His favorite pursuit was fly fishing for permit, a tricky gamefish of the Yucatan peninsula.
Samson became an editor for Field & Stream magazine in 1970, and became editor-in-chief in 1972.[1] He retired from this position in 1985.[1]
