John Regan was a fictional footballer who played as a defender and appeared in the comic strip We are United in the British boys' comic Champ and Victor. He first appeared in the strip in 1984.[1] His fact file on Champ was number 16 in 1985. He was also known as ‘’J.R.’’.

Career

Club

Regan signed for United as a schoolboy while he was also playing rugby where he was also talented. After Joe Pearson took over in 83/84 he started playing more for United and played a key role in the club’s promotion and he was hoping to feature in Europe with United at some point. His United contract was up to 1988.

International

Regan became an England U-21 international with Jimmy Grant and then played a few times for England too. He was also the captain of England Schools XV in Rugby!

Style of play

His position was in defence a centre-half though he always played as striker in United’s training. Regan was tall, muscular, commanding and with prowess in the air, where United were struggling.

Personal life

His other favourite sport was rugby and was supporting the England Rugby XV. His biggest disappointment was he had to decide between rugby and football. Regan’s biggest ambition was to coach his old school rugby team to the title of the school league.
