John Tormondsen is a founding partner at Tormar Associates, a joint family office based in Stamford, Connecticut. He founded it in 2003 with partner Ronald Marks. Both are former partners at Goldman Sachs.[1][2]

Tormondsen served as head of swap and government bond trading at Goldman Sachs. As head of trading, Mr. Tormondsen oversaw operations during a time when Goldman Sachs was one of five firms collectively conducting nearly half of the total daily trading in United States bonds. Tormondsen also served on the U.S. Treasury Department Borrowing Advisory Committee of the Public Securities Association, now known as the Bond Market Association.[3]

After 17 years with Goldman Sachs, Tormondsen retired in 2002[3] before going on to found Tormar Associates.

In March 2015, Tormondsen and Marks were sued by Citibank NA, which claimed the partners "made a wrong bet on the Swiss franc". According to a complaint in federal court in Manhattan, the pair used Citibank to broker foreign-exchange transactions. Citibank is looking to recoup $25 million.[4]

Tormondsen serves on the Board of Trustees of Middlebury College and formerly served on the MBA Advisory Board of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He is a graduate of both schools. He and his wife live in Greenwich, Connecticut.[5]
