Nnamani Chimaobi John,[3] known professionally as Johnel, is a Nigerian singer, rapper and songwriter.[4][5]
Early life[edit]
Johnel was born in Lagos, Nigeria.[6] He started pursuing his music career in 2020, while he attended high school in Lagos.[2]
Career[edit]
In 2023, Johnel released three extended plays "Conversations with Myself", "Happy Story, Sad Reality" and "Painting Pictures" under ONErpm[7] following his collaboration with American rapper Daine Steele on a hip hop single "Mercy" which was released alongside a music video.[8] Johnel won The Next Star Awards.[3] He was also among the TNMA nominees.[9] In 2022, his afrobeat single "Kolo" reached top 5 on Anghami Afrobeat songs chart[10] which was also released via ONErpm.[11] People have described Johnel as a "jack of all trades." On 26 January 2024, Johnel released a hip hop and R&B single titled "Wake Up, It's Daylight" which was featured on This Day newspaper prints.[5][2]
