Johnny Sudenberg (May 13, 1894 - February 1, 1976) was a Swedish-American light-heavyweight Professional boxer.

Boxing career[edit]

Johnny Sudenberg's career first started off disastrously with 9 losses and 7 draws, before he achieved his first win over Anton LaGrave. He won two more matches after that, against Anton LaGrave (a rematch) and Ray Marshall.

His next four fights were again poor, ending in 2 losses and 2 draws, bringing his record to 3 wins (0 by knockout), 11 losses, and 9 draws. However, he managed to win his next two fights against KO Brown, and Clarence Kid Ross.

His claim to fame may have been his next trilogy of fights against top prospect (and future heavyweight champion of the world) Jack Dempsey. The first fight on May 31, 1915 in Goldfield, Nevada ended in a draw. The second match on June 13, 1915 in Tonopah, Nevada was a draw as well. However, the third fight on February 1, 1916 in Ely, Nevada ended in a second round knockout of Sudenberg. Jack Dempsey became the first man to knock out Sudenberg.[1]

Johnny Sudenberg continued to fight. After 33 more fights, his record ended with 9 wins (3 by knockout), 32 losses, and 18 draws. John Sudenberg died during 1976.[2]
