The Jokowi Effect (Indonesian: Efek Jokowi) is a term coined to describe the influence of media popularity of Governor of Jakarta Joko Widodo (or Jokowi) on Indonesian politics and the Indonesian economy. When Jokowi was declared as a presidential candidate in the 2014 Indonesian presidential election it is believed that the popularity of the Indonesian Democratic Party – Struggle was boosted to 30% in the 2014 Indonesian legislative election.[1] Meanwhile, in the capital market, the effect is said to have stimulated the Indonesian stock market and Rupiah, because Jokowi was regarded as having a clean track record.[2]
