Joseph James Nantomah (born December 31, 1976)[1] He is the founder of Prosperity for Africa foundation, a foundation in the United States of America focused on making grants to support environmental, education, human services and other causes in Africa[2]. Variously known as The Black Mentor, he is an entrepreneur,[3] life coach and philanthropist[4].
Early life and career
Nantomah was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.[5] He attended City Campus College Lagos, Project Management Institute (PMI), and also attended Harvard Business School. Nantomah migrated from Nigeria to the United States.[6]
Nantomah was a campaign staff member for the then republican party Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker. Presently, he is a national planning committee member for the current administration of democratic party governor Tony Evers.[7]
In 2018, the party he campaigned for lost the election in his state.[7]
Nantomah credited United States Vice President Mike Pence for firing up his desire to give back[8], which led to the launch of Prosperity for Africa, a nonprofit organization focused on making grants to support environmental, education, human services and other causes.[4][9][10]
Nantomah raised the Nigerian flag high on American soil when he was honored by US President Donald Trump[10][3] on September 9 on the President's Honours Roll.[11]
Challenges
Nantomah lost his mother at a very young age. He started hawking and selling items on the street after school in Africa, but while doing all of these he was building character and skills. Moving to the United States was another big challenge for him as he had no support system and no friends or family to rely on.[1]
