Joshua Wu Kai-Ming is an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. He regularly publishes legal commentary on his personal website, in State Bar magazines, and in legal journals.

Education & Entry Into Law[edit]

Joshua graduated with a Second Class Upper Honours Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of London. During his legal studies, he obtained the award of "Best in Malaysia for Public Law" in the 2014 examinations.

In 2018, he graduated with a Certificate in Legal Practice[1] and went on to pursue his pupillage at Messrs. Sreenevasan. During his pupillage at Messrs. Sreenevasan, Joshua worked closely with Dato' Ambiga Sreenevasan and Lim Wei Jiet on public interest cases.

Joshua was called to the Malaysian Bar on 25th October 2019.

Career[edit]

Joshua began his legal career as a Legal Associate at Messrs. Josephine, L K Chow & Co, where he worked in the Dispute Resolution and Labour and Employment departments.

In March 2021, he left Messrs. Josephine, L K Chow & Co to join Messrs. P. E. LIM as a Legal Associate. On 1st January 2023, Joshua was promoted to a partner of Messrs. P. E. LIM.

Involvement in Public Interest Litigation[edit]

Joshua assisted Lim Wei Jiet in a landmark decision on the protection of trade union officers in Malaysia.[2] The High Court's decision went on appeal all the way to the Federal Court and the Federal Court affirmed the High Court's decision.

He was also a member of the legal team for Undi18's judicial review application[3] against the delayed implementation of the Constitutional (Amendment) Act 2019.

Joshua is currently a member of the legal team in Ps. Raymond Koh’s civil suit in relation to his enforced disappearance, Messrs. Fahri, Azzat & Co’s judicial review application against the Director of the National Registration of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Sidang Injil Borneo & Anor’s judicial review application against the Home Minister & Government of Malaysia, and Messrs. Fahri, Azzat & Co’s judicial review application against the Legal Profession Qualifying Board.

Affiliations & Bar Involvement[edit]

In 2019/2020, Joshua was a member of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee’s Firms and Group Practice Reform Committee and contributed to the Consultation Paper on the Legal Profession (Group Law Practice) Rules 2018.[4]

Joshua has been a member of the Bar Council's Constitutional Law Committee since 2019/2020,[5][6][7] and has spoken at webinars on constitutional law on the topics of anti-hopping law[8] and the separation of the offices of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor.[9]

He has also been a member of the Bar Council's Legal Profession Committee since 2020/2021,[10][11] and a member of the Bar Council's Human Rights Committee since 2021/2022.[12]

Joshua is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Estate Planners (MIEP) and an Associate Member of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR).

Interviews[edit]

Joshua has been asked to provide his legal opinion on various constitutional law issues. He was interviewed by BFM on the Kuching High Court's dismissal of Tan Sri Musa Aman & Co's challenge regarding the 2020 dissolution of the Sabah State legislative assembly.[19]

He was also interviewed by TheStar on the 2021 dissolution of the Malacca State legislative assembly.[20]
