Jovan dawkins

Jovan J Dawkins is an American drummer/producer/musical director and production supervisor. Jovan has worked with Jamie Foxx, Jagged Edge, Kevin McCall, SWV, Trinitee Stokes, BET, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, MC Lyte, 20th Century Fox , Sir Mix-a-Lot, Travis Barker, Tye Tribbett, Monster Cable, VH1, Brandy Norwood, among others.

Life and career[edit]

Early life[edit]

Jovan grew up in the Pacific Northwest in Tacoma, Washington raised in a gospel church environment his whole life. He comes from a huge family of great musicians and singers which had a huge effect on his musical influence.

Musical Beginnings[edit]

At the young age of two years old Jovan began to play drums simply by watching drummers in the Gospel Church which developed his ear to be able to play whatever he heard. As he grew up he was given the opportunity at the age of 10 years old to be the main drummer at his local church and continued playing for other church choirs around the state of Washington. Jovan mother and grandmother Saw the talent in him at an early age and decided to encourage him to participate in middle school band to learn the education of music. In joining middle school band he learned how to read music and started studying orchestra and composing. Jovan's middle school teacher was so impressed by Jovan ability to not just play drums and other instruments but his ability to compose a full composition, which led him to give Jovan the opportunity to conduct a song in their school concert as well as making him a co-conductor and allowing him to compose and arrange new compositions for the band to play. He wasn't loaded the first middle school student in the history of the Tacoma School district to conduct a band in middle school.

Jovan began touring with numerous artists and networking with music producers as a teenager which opened up the doors for him to become a session drummer/ drum sampler. Numerous of different music producers start to become fond of his ability to play patterns so well that The producers kept hiring him to perform drum programming for their records.

After making a name for himself as a session drummer and migrating into music production/scoring along the way Javon became close friends with his biggest musical influence Grammy award-winning producer & drummer Rickey Lawson. Ricky poured into Jovan so much and directed him and trusted him with the responsibilities of going to the next level.
