Plot[edit]

Vanessa Sills (Bethany Joy Lenz) is a hard-working pop culture writer in Portland, Oregon who is up for a promotion. Her best friend Amber (Alegue Reid) confronts her with her workaholic tendencies and convinces to join her on a weekend trip to her hometown. While in the small rural town, Vanessa finds out that one of the inhabitants is her favorite mystery author Martin Clayborne (Brett Dalton). Martin was once a well-celebrated author, but became reclusive after a not so flattering interview with him was published and went viral.

When her boss calls her that she might miss the promotion, Vanessa in the heat of the moment falsely promises him an exclusive interview with Martin. Then, she sets out to interview Martin, but he has sworn off any media appearances since his last interview. Due to her persuasive attitude, he grants her three interviews, and throughout the process they grow closer. Once an aspiring novelist herself, Vanessa becomes inspired by Martin's life story, and he manages to inspire her to finish her first novel, which she started writing years earlier but never finished due to her full work schedule.

During their interviews, they start to bond becoming closer to the point where Martin cooks lunch for Vanessa. She accidentally interacts with poisonous flowers which make anyone who touches them itchy, however Martin wraps her hands and tells her not to and the next day her hands are back to normal. She is very close to finishing her article. Martin starts to give signs of liking Vanessa but she doesn’t notice it due to mixed reactions when one of the volunteers for the Founders Day celebration stops by. Eventually the confuses cleared when on the day that Vanessa is set to leave and gives the article to Martin to read prior to their agreement for the interview, he tells her that he has feelings for her and even though she feels the same she as a life to get back to. The interview article is a success and Vanessa gets the promotion but she feels incomplete. Martin sends her his typewriter and she returns to the Founders day, realizing that the life she really wants involves him.

They go outside and talk under a canopy and she tells him that even though her life is good, she knows that her life isn’t complete without him in it and they finally kiss, confirming their new romantic relationship.
