KARNA (Ukrainian: Карна) is a Ukrainian metal band from Ivano-Frankivsk.
History[edit]
Early years (1997–2010)[edit]
The band was founded in 1997 in Ivano-Frankivsk.[1]
The first album was released in 2003, called «Letymo».
The band's second album was premiered in 2010 called "KARNA"[2].
In September 2010, guitarist Vladislav Yarun announced the dissolution of the band[3]
Hutsul metal (2013–now)[edit]
In 2013 KARNA was restarted in a new, self-proclaimed genre "hutsul metal".
Apart from authentic Carpathian details in the music, another peculiarity of "hutsul metal" is the band's invention for live shows - the "metal arkan": while performing, the guitarist steps down from the stage into the audience who form a circle around him, dancing the traditional Carpathian "arkan" dance; at a climax point, moshing begins. This combines local Ukrainian traditions with world rock/metal culture[4]
On November 17, 2017, the third album was released, called "Hutsul-metal"[5][6].

2001 - Diploma of the finalists of the Chervona Ruta Festival[7]
2003 - The Grand Prix of the Taras Bulba Festival in 2003[7]
2017 - The album "KARNA" made it to the top 100 albums of independent Ukraine according to Karabas Live[8]
2017 - Music video "Party na Prykarpatti" awarded by "The Best Ukrainian Metal Act"[9] as the best metal video in Ukraine of that year.
