Kamia Mulhotra also known as Malhotra (born 27 September 1966) is an Indian Producer and film actress, She started her acting career in July 1984, with a leading role in Hum_Log_(TV_series), India's first TV soap opera telecast on Doordarshan opposite Abhinav Chaturvedi. Hum Log had 156 episodes, directed by P Kumar which also had veterans like Sushma Seth, Vinod Nagpal.

Early Life and Family[edit]

Kamia Mulhotra was born on 27 September 1966, brought up and studied in New Delhi. She is an Indian actress, entrepreneur and social activist. Kamia was born in a Punjabi Hindu family to LK Malhotra and Uma Vasudev. Her father served as an Indian Administrative Service bureaucrat Madhya Pradesh Cadre with a background of radio and a long stint with the BBC London. Kamia's mother Uma Vasudev is a well-known writer and biographer of former Prime Minister of India, late Mrs Indira Gandhi. She had a distinguished career as a journalist and an editor. She ran her own magazine in the 60's called Surge International and later went on to becoming the first editor of the magazine India Today. Kamia went to Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi and completed her higher secondary from there. Between 1971-1988, she trained under renowned Kathak Dancers Devi Lal and Uma Sharma, and performed Kathak across India. She debuted in Hum Log (India’s first TV soap opera which started in July 1984) as a character named after her. Thereafter she went on to act in Ghar Jamai (a comedy TV serial directed by Shridhar Shirsagar), Buniyaad (serial based on partition directed by Ramesh Sippy), Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne (a comedy directed by Prakash Jha) and went on to doing many more.

Kamia Mulhotra started her acting career in July 1984, with a leading role in Hum Log, India's first TV soap opera telecast on Doordarshan opposite Abhinav Chaturvedi. Hum Log had 156 episodes, directed by P Kumar which also had veterans like Sushma Seth, Vinod Nagpal. 1986-She played the lead role in Ghar Jamai (13 episodes, directed by Shridhar Shirsagar, telecast on Doordarshan) a comedy revolving around a South Indian married to a Punjabi girl starring Satish Shah, Farida Jalala and Anant Mahadevan. Next from 1986 – 1988 she played one of the leading roles in Buniyaad (104 episodes), a historic TV serial based on partition and directed by renowned film maker Ramesh Sippy on Doordarshan.1988 – 1989-She played a leading role in a comedy serial, Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne (13 episodes, directed by renowned film maker Prakash Jha) alongside Raghuvir Yadav on Sony TV channel. In 1998, she anchored 75 episodes of TV show, The Good Home Show directed by Sanjay Virmani.1998 – Then she acted in a daily soap opera called YUG on Doordarshan, based on partition (600 episodes) directed by Sunil Agnihotri, the serial cast included Hema Malini, Shahbaz Khan and Ashwini Bhave . She has also acted in a thriller called Ssshhhh...Koi Hai (13 episodes), and Kohra on Star plus. 1996 – 1997- She acted in a serial based on the army called Tujhpe Dil Qurbaan directed by Sanjiv Puri on Sony TV(52 episodes). In the year 2000 she played a leading role in a family drama opposite Harsh Chhaya called Samay on Zee TV (26 episodes). It was directed by Ajai Sinha and the star cast included famous theater actress Surekha Sikri. 2000 – 2001-She went on to playing a leading role in a serial titled PAPA (daily soap) on B4U starring noted actor Kiran Kumar. In 2002, she acted in Tehzeeb (13 episodes), opposite Kanwaljeet Singh, a story based on an Indian family residing in London and shot in London starring veteran actress Kamini Kaushal among others.

Film Production[edit]

Kamia Mulhotra is presently producing two feature films in partnership with renowned Film maker Ramesh Sippy. The first Film titled Sonali Cable[1] directed by Charu Dutt, Starring Ali Fazal, Rhea Chakraborty. The second Film titled Shimla Mirchi [2], directed by Mr. Ramesh Sippy Staring Hema Malini and Raj Kumar Rao. She has her own production company in the name of Kamia Malhotra Production and has just completed a short film for CARA titled “A Special Bond” among other short films and documentaries.

Political Work[edit]

Kamia has worked at the grassroots level in the New Delhi assembly constituency where she worked under the close guidance of the then Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit. During that period (2011-2013) she has been actively touring this constituency and interacting with the people in those areas, to address, and solve their social concerns and issues. She is a member of the Indian National Congress since 2012 and currently represents Congress on behalf of Media and Communications Department of All India Congress Committee (AICC) in debate on various National News channels

2009-2015 Funding the education of six underprivileged, orphan Children.
Since 2012 Also funding free medicine to mobile dispensaries running in the tribal belt of Orissa.
2015 • Associated with a Charity Foundation Inner Circle at the core level that has been instrumental in arranging life changing enlightening workshops at India’s high security prison, Tihar jail, New Delhi. These workshops help in re-orienting the thinking of the prisoners so that they are reformed and get re¬habilitated into the main stream. More than 150 workshops have been conducted in just 15 months and are proving extremely beneficial for the inmates.
