Kamkesta Bhattacharya Sanyal (b. 1945) popularly known as Gyanada, is an eminent Bengali writer.

Early life and Education[edit]

Kamkesta was born in 1945 in a wealthy zamindar family of Rajshahi district (presently in Bangladesh). After the Partition of Bengal his family fled to India and took shelter in English Bazar, Maldah. His father Dinikesta Bhattacharya was a Sanskrit scholar passed from Benaras Hindu Univeristy.

Activities[edit]

Kamkesta studied at first in Jadavpur Bijoygarh Shikshaniketan in Kolkata, Ravenshaw College of Cuttack and Fakirmohon Automatons Degree College of Balasore. He passed B.Sc and joined in Chudirvai Chemicals as a Medical representative in 1970. His experiences and works with various writers inspired him to enter into the field of Bengali Literature. Kamkesta started writing from 2003 in Bengali magazines and tabloids. After the publication of his first book Bechu Babu, Kolkata based critics gave a positive review and compared his skill with Sayed Mujtaba Ali. He become popular as Bhamkesta or Gyanada. He is an antique collector in personal life. During the period of 2016 Indian banknote demonetisation, Kamkesta suffered a lot and was forced to sell all of his collection.[1][2]
