Kenan Pala is an American/Turkish entrepreneur and volunteer.[1][2][3] He founded the charity Kids4Community, a non-profit organization that feeds the homeless and gives lessons of awareness to teens about homelessness in the San Diego area. Pala is also a triathlete in the San Diego area.[4][5][6] The City of San Diego declared January 23, 2018 as “Kenan Pala Day”.[7]

Personal life[edit]

Kenan Pala is the eldest son of Serhat Pala and Zeynep Ilgaz, who originally immigrated from Turkey to the United States in 1998. They both received their MBAs at San Diego State and eventually started Confirm Biosciences. Since Kenan was in kindergarten he has been volunteering with his parents at local shelters in San Diego. He stated that volunteering has "been a part of my life for as long as I can remember."[8]

Kids4Community[edit]

In 2016, he led a food drive that received over 6000 cereal boxes for local shelters for homeless people. They also used 4000 cereal boxes to shortly set the Guinness World Record for the largest cardboard box mosaic, that was later broken.[8]

In May 2017, he was awarded the title of the national honoree in the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, which recognize teens for their community efforts. He was also awarded San Diego's Philanthropy Council Volunteer of the Year award.[8]

Kenan Pala founded Kids4Community on January 2017, a volunteer organization that "helps kids help the community." The organization works with other non-profit groups and shelters.[9] Pala started the organization "to help children and their families give back to their communities in a meaningful way."[10][8]

In September 2017, Kids4Community donated hygiene kits for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and care packages for the victims of Hurricane Irma.[11][12] The next month, the organization assembled and sent care packages to those affected by Hurricane Maria and the 2017 Central Mexico earthquake.[13] In December 2017, the organization donated 2000 stockings to a San Diego shelter.[8][14]

In June 2018, Kids4Community helped organize a cleanup in Mission Bay.[15]

In September 2018, Kids4Community created and donated 400 backpacks to low income children at Perkins Elementary School.[16] Later, in December, they assembled care packages in the form of backpacks to donate to the local homeless population in San Diego.[17]

During March of 2019, Kids4Community partnered with Interfaith Community Services to create gift boxes for homeless and low-income children across San Diego county. Volunteers also packaged and made sandwiches and crafted hygiene kits. [18]
