Kenneth John Freeman

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Kenneth John Freeman is a computer adviser, bodybuilder, former security guard at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation, and former Benton County, Washington reserve sheriff's deputy who was accused in November 2005 of abusing his daughter in 2000, when she was 10 years old. The videos Freeman made led the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to search for the girl depicted therein for years. Freeman eventually gave a computer to his daughter which had the same hard drive that he had used to store the pornography. While trying to download a demonstration for her Spanish class, she discovered the files, which he had apparently thought he had deleted. Police eventually found 80,000 images on two hard drives and 200 video clips.[1]

Freeman's second wife had married Freeman about nine months before he was charged, and she posted the $50,000 needed to bail him out of jail. She was later arrested for making false statements to federal agents. When the additional evidence against Freeman surfaced, he fled to Suzhou, China in 2006, where he worked as a computer consultant and registered at a local fitness club under his real name.[2] With the cooperation of his daughter, an episode of America's Most Wanted was produced featuring his case, as the U.S. Marshals Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement attempted to find him. Chinese law enforcement tracked his movements and notified U.S. officials that he was going on vacation to Hong Kong to meet his second wife, who was also under surveillance. He was arrested there in May 2007, injuring four officers as he resisted arrest;[3] and extradited to the U.S., where he pleaded guilty in federal court to producing child pornography and interstate transportation of a minor for the purpose of engaging in unlawful sexual activity and was sentenced to 50 years in prison.[4]

Freeman wrote a 400-page autobiography while in custody, which contained confessions to much of the behavior for which he was criminally charged,[5] and consequently his plea agreement required him to forgo any profits from book or movie rights to his story.[6]
