Admitted[1] is a 2020 Indian documentary film, directed by Ojaswwee Sharma[2] and produced by Pinaka Mediaworks, is a feature biographical docudrama based on the true and inspiring life of Dhananjay Chauhan to become the 1st Transgender student of Panjab University.
The critically acclaimed docudrama is the biography of Dhananjay Chauhan, the leading Trans-woman Activist of North India, playing herself in the film. It was released on YouTube by Rolling Frames Entertainment on June 13, 2020 during the Pride Month 2020.
Plot
Admitted is a narrative docudrama based on Dhananjay Chauhan,[3] her life journey of transformation into a trans woman with thrust on education along with gender identification, dilemmas and expression in personal life to strive for Education and Upliftment of the Transgender Community in India. The documentary strongly unearths advocacy of transgender rights and right to education through Dhananjay's personal life (biography) as striving for education to a social activist.
The film talks about coming out of the closet of the 3rd Gender - Transgender, Self Identification, Gender Expression, Gender Role, Acceptance by the family, society and institutions, Enabling environment of the Panjab University, The road of education taken to live life with dignity - education, situation of education rights for Transgender before and after the landmark judgement of National Legal Services Authority v. Union of India 2014
Production
An inspiration for the present and upcoming generation of transgenders, the film features eminent Former Consul General of Canada in Chandigarh Christopher Gibbins, Former Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh, Former Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University; Eminent department heads of Panjab University, Government Colleges and Schools, Popular and notable RJs and Journalists of Chandigarh from various media houses, Academicians, Researchers; and the common observant man.
The film has been filmed entirely in Chandigarh with major sequences filmed within the Panjab University’s premises, and is a subject matter of pride for the Panjab University’s and Chandigarh’s enabling environment for Education and Equal Rights as the subject rightly caught the eyes of serious cinephiles, across international film festivals.
Admitted has officially been supported by the Canadian High Commission in India[4], with mention by Present Consul General of Canada in India - Nadir Patel[5] and Former Consul General of Canada in India in Chandigarh - Christopher Gibbins, and has been screened at the American Centre[6], New Delhi on the eve of International Transgender Day of Visibility 2019.[7]
