Patrick Carney (born November 17th, 1992), better known by his online alias Chief Pat, is an American YouTuber and Internet personality, and founder/CEO of professional esports organization Tribe Gaming.
Carney became known for his YouTube channel, where he posts Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars gameplays and strategy videos. His channel has garnered over 707 million video views and 2.47 million subscribers since its inception in 2012.[1]
YouTube Career[edit]
Carney started creating YouTube videos on October 14, 2012 around Clash of Clans, a mobile game by Finnish developers Supercell, while attending the University of Virginia. Carney began creating content by recording gameplay videos in his dorm's laundry room, and recorded voiceovers afterwards in his car.[2]
In 2013, Carney won a competition held by the Axe Apollo Space Academy through a popular vote, leveraging his channel's subscribers to win a commercial spaceflight through XCOR Aerospace.[3]
In September of 2014, Carney became the first mobile gaming YouTuber to reach 1,000,000 subscribers on YouTube.[4]
In 2015, Carney was featured in a Super Bowl XLIX commercial for Clash of Clans.[5] Irish actor Liam Neeson was also featured in the commercial.
During 2016, Carney achieved a No. 1 global ranking in Clash Royale[6]. In September of 2016, Carney finished in third place at the Kings Cup[7] presented YouTube, pocketing $7,500.[8]
In 2019, Carney collaborated on a YouTube video for Brawl Stars with Finn Wolfhard and Caleb McLaughlin from the popular Netflix series Stranger Things.[9] The video was a massive success, receiving over 5.3 million views (as of December 2019)[10] and coverage from a number of media outlets.
Tribe Gaming[edit]
Carney is a long-time esports enthusiast, having previously explored purchasing a League of Legends team.[11] In 2017, Carney founded Tribe Gaming, a mobile gaming esports organization, and currently serves as CEO.[12] Competing exclusively in mobile gaming titles, Tribe Gaming currently fields teams in Clash Royale, Clash of Clans, PUBG Mobile, Brawl Stars, and Call of Duty: Mobile. Additionally, the organization fields a number of popular mobile gaming content creators.[13]
Personal life[edit]
Carney attended the University of Virginia before leaving school to pursue YouTube as a full-time career.[14]
Carney resides in Austin, Texas with his long-time girlfriend. He has a cat, nicknamed Chief Cat.[1]
