Kerala Evergreen Football Club (commonly abbreviated as KEFC) is an Indian professional football club based in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, that competes in the I-League, one of the top two tier football leagues in India. The franchise will be part of the 2017–18 I-League[1]. The team's home stadium is Trivandrum International Stadium[2] in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala[3].

History[edit]

Formation[edit]

On 18 July 2017 the team was officially launched in Thiruvananthapuram capital city of Kerala and will be part of the 2017–18 I-League. Kerala Evergreen FC is the first I-League club to have majority ownership from a foreign company. Kerala Evergreen FC is the first team from Thiruvananthapuram to play in the I-League.

Crest and Colours[edit]

On 18 July 2017 official logo and the team's official name was unveiled as the 'Kerala Evergreen FC'. Mahatma Gandhi called Trivandrum as "Evergreen City" based on it, team named as "Evergreen". The Kerala Evergreen FC official logo is state bird – Great Hornbill (Great Indian Hornbill or Great Pied Hornbill) and the official colours are green and white. On 28 July 2017 after club officials were alerted that the newly unveiled crest bore a great resemblance to that of Bray Wanderers who play in the League of Ireland Premier Division, the club publicly apologised and blamed it on the responsibility for graphic design having been outsourced to an external company.[4]

Stadium[edit]

Trivandrum International Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kerala, used mainly for association football and cricket. The stadium is located at Kariavattom in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. It is India's first DBOT (design, build, operate and transfer) model outdoor stadium.The first international football tournament hosted by the stadium was the 2015 SAFF championship. India were crowned the champions, beating Afghanistan 2–1. The final recorded an attendance of more than 42,000 spectators. Kerala Evergreen FC officially announced Trivandrum International Stadium as home stadium.
