Khurshid Eqbal (Urdu: خورشید اقبال‎) (born March 14, 1962) is an Urdu poet, writer and educationalist from India.[1][2] He has written several books including poetry and prose. He has received Howrah Writer's Association Award for his literary contribution.[3]

Early life[edit]

Eqbal was born on March 14, 1962, in Kolkata, India. He received his secondary education from Jagatdal Chashma-i-Rahmat High School in 1979, and graduated from Rishi Bankim Chandra College, Naihati, West Bengal in 1982. He qualified for Master of Science degree in Plant Physiology from the Institute of Agricultural Science of the University of Calcutta in 1984. In 1987, he also qualified for Master of Arts in Urdu from the University of Calcutta. In 1987, he began his career as a bio-science teacher at Anjuman High School, Barrackpore and since August 2007 working as a head master at same institute.[4]

Career[edit]

Eqbal has written several books.[5] He is also a Chief Editor of Mahnama Kainaat (کائنات)which is the world's first online Urdu monthly magazine[6] and is publishing on regular basis since January 2001.[7] He has written many columns, translation, criticism and essays. As a translator, he has translated several short stories of African writers in an Urdu language, which were compiled and published in the year 2011 with the name of Ek Shab-e-Awargi.[8][9] Subject book is being discussed internationally and getting a well response from the literary circle of Urdu world[10][11][12][13][14]
