Muhammad Uzair Shams
Muhammad Uzair bin Shams al-Haq bin Rida Allah (1957 - 15 October 2022) was one of the most famous contemporary scholars of India, concerned with issues of heritage and manuscript verification. He was born in West Bengal, India, in 1957. During his pursuit of knowledge, he mastered six languages, including Arabic, English, and Farsi. He is the author of many publications and researches.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Both his grandfather, Razaullah, and father, Shamsul Haq, were well-known academics in their field. He studied elementary at Fayd Public School in the city of Mew, which included Sheikh Habib al-Rahman al-Azami, Muhammad Mustafa al-Azami, Saeed al-Azami, Muqtada Hassan al-Azhari, and others. In February 1978, he was granted entrance to Madinah University. In four years, he earned his BA in Arabic literature there. He was admitted for his MA at both Madinah University and Umm Al-Qara University in Makkah, but he decided to attend Umm Al-Qara, where he studied for four years and earned his MA. His dissertation focused on Hali’s poetry. He began working on his PhD thesis on "Arabic Poetry in India, a Critical Review," but was unable to submit it because of disagreements with his advisor.[1]
Career
After leaving Umm Al-Qura University, he returned to his native country, but he soon moved back to Makkah, where he worked for a number of colleges and universities, including Umm Al-Qura University, King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran, and International Islamic Fiqh Academy, among others.[1]
