Khwaja Mia (born 5 July 1965) is a Bangladeshi government official who is currently serving as the Secretary to the Ministry of Information.[1][2] Prior to this, he was the Additional Secretary and Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).[3][4]

Early life and education[edit]

Khwaja Mia was born on 5 July 1965 in Fuldah village of Kalia upazila of Narail. He passed SSC from Chachuri Purulia High School in 1980 and HSC from Government Brajalal College, Khulna in 1982. In 1966, he obtained a master's degree with honors from the Department of Social Sciences, Dhaka University. He completed a course on Standing of BCS Admin Cadre Officers from Duke University in the United States.[5]

Career[edit]

Khwaja Mia He joined the Cadre Service in 1991 as a member of the 10th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Cadre. During his service, he worked as a Magistrate in the Deputy Commissioner's Office, Sylhet and Assistant Commissioner in Balaganj and Bishwanath Police Stations, Sylhet. After serving as a first class magistrate in Rajbari, Netrokona and Mymensingh districts, he became the Matlab Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Chandpur in 2003.[3]

In April 2006, he served as Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Local Government and Ministry of Home Affairs. He has been the Commercial Counselor of the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore for four years since 2015. He served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Public Administration on 28 November 2019. From 23 December 2019 to 26 November 2020, he served as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).[4][3]

On 26 November 2020, he was appointed as the Secretary of the Ministry of Information.[5][2]
