Kid Psycho is a fictional character in the DC Universe. He became a reserve member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th century.

Fictional character biography[edit]

Gnill Opral is a native of the planet Hajor. Because his parents were exposed to radiation while fighting a space squid, he was born with an oversized brain and psychokinetic abilities. After his world was destroyed when he was a young teenager, he applied for membership in the Legion of Super-Heroes under the codename "Kid Psycho", but was rejected. Undaunted, he traveled to 20th century Smallville to consult Superboy, who became impressed with his abilities, and ask his endorsement when he reapplied. Kid Psycho traveled back to the 30th century with the Boy of Steel, where it was revealed to him that the use of his powers shortened his life expectancy by one year each time he used them. Although unable to be a Legionnaire for obvious reasons, Kid Psycho still offered his services to the Legion should the need arise, despite the threat to his life. Superboy convinced the Legion to induct him as a reserve member, to be called upon only in extreme emergencies.

While Kid Psycho was occasionally present for Legion wedding ceremonies and anniversary celebrations,[1][2] he was only called into action once—during the first Crisis. While protecting people in London from a series of natural disasters, he was vaporized by a wave of anti-matter created by the Anti-Monitor, who was attempting to destroy the Multiverse.[3] Although he is occasionally mentioned thereafter, he is soon erased from Legion continuity and forgotten.

Post-Infinite Crisis[edit]

No one named Gnill Opral or Kid Psycho appears in the Post-Zero Hour or "Threeboot" versions of the Legion. However, the events of the Infinite Crisis miniseries have restored a close analogue of the Pre-Crisis Legion to continuity, as seen in "The Lightning Saga" story arc in Justice League of America and Justice Society of America, and in the "Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes" story arc in Action Comics. Kid Psycho was seen briefly when multiple versions of the Legion battled Superboy-Prime, the Time Trapper and the Legion of Super-Villains.[4]
